Remounting binding on same position were ski was mounted before

Looking into buying some used pow skis, but the ones im looking at they've been mounted twice all ready.

if they were profesionly fixed(refilled and all that good shit) would it be wise you remount them were the were all ready mounted before?

i do believe we have the same size boot.

if they threaded the holes then you should be fine

thanks, and bumb. if any one here works at a ski shop or know a little bit more about this, you opinion would be appreciated.

If you're remounting the same binding, into previously filled holes, it's no big deal.  As long as the holes aren't stripped, you should be fine.  Drill the plugs out, re-tap to clean them out, and mount bindings.

If the holes are stripped out, they can be heli-coiled and then have your bindings mounted.



I've re-used filled holes many times.  No big deal.

You could also drill the hole up and use binding freedom or quiver killer inserts, couldn't you? If the holes are stripped, that is what I would personally do.

A little sketchy. I once did this and what happened is since it was remounted in same positiion when i went of a jump my binding broke of off the ski and i landed on my back then ended up going in an ambulance. I wouldnt do it. Thats also what the owner of my local ski shop said.

I'd at least flex the crap out of it if you won't be getting theSe mounted at a shop. Pop your boot in and crank on it, see if there's any looseness.

thanks, and im defiantly getting them mounted at a shop. i trust the shop i get my skis mounted hes literly been mounting and tuning skis for the past 20-25 year.

And iv ALL READY BOUGHT the skis so thanks for all you info +k to all.

If I was in this situation I'd use quiver killers or binding freedom insets as mentioned above

Sure could.  The inserts are basically a sealed heli-coil.

I think it might be a little more difficult to find a shop that's comfortable with installing inserts.  All shops can do a heli-coil.

As above, it probably comes down to how they filled the old holes. If they did it with epoxy, and the tech is careful, they should be able to revive the old holes. If they did it with those plugs you smash into place, then the threads are probably pretty mongrel, and it would be advisable to helicoil/insert some or all of them. But for a good tech it shouldn't be a problem. Might just cost you a little more than a normal mount.

Please elaborate on what you disagree with. If you hammer a plug into a wooden thread you are going to damage the thread, leaving less material for the new screws to grip on.

But the overall impression I get from reading your posts on here is that you're a pretty gigantic tool who just generally just disagrees with people with no corroborating evidence, so I'm not holding my breath. "You're wrong because I said so" is not a convincing argument, even on NS.

Plastic plugs do not wreck the threads of the holes. 

I have drilled out plugs and re-used holes many times.  It works just fine as long as the holes are not stripped out.

I dunno what sort of plugs you use but I've seen techs whaling on a ski with a hammer putting them in. Shit I've even heard of people smashing pieces of golf tees into the holes to plug them.

Based on the standard installation method, I don't trust it hugely. I've seen enough bindings rip out of skis mounted once, let alone ones where someone has re-used an unknown drill'n'fill job.

i was just asking what they thought, but it ended up being that we have the same size boot, so i can mount them in the same spot with out having to re drill, and again i said Thread closed skies are all ready bought and just recieved them, there looking fine.

I will if the alpine shop cant handle them =). there actually originally from your guys shop, or at least you did some work on them.
