Fire places. Which means you need wood. The top of Whistler Peak has no trees or food sources.
You'll have to descend... this means going into a well populated area (which is likely where a lot of zombies are)
I'd be holding out somewhere where there's plenty of ammo, a decent amount of food, and that was sparsly populated with people beforehand, and therefore will have less zombie influence.
...I'd go to deep into Nevada. I'm more likely to find survivors out there than Zombies.
Same can probably be said for someplace like Alaska, but Nevada has easier escape routes, and milder weather situations.
In Nevada, If you're rolling down one of the long lonely highways for sources of food, water, or escape, and encounter any zombies, you could easily just tear offroad into the desert and evade. You can't do that in Alaska with mountains and shit around you. You'd be more likely to be killed by the natural environment there than you would be zombies.
Also, you can probably go out to the Nuclear Test site, and find Area 51. It's probably loaded with survivors like in Independence day if it exists.
