These brain dead players need to realize they control the fucking game, pool their money and start their own league. But they won't, so forever they will be little pawns and watch as their salaries drop little by little.
I know a guy who works for sportsnet and its his job to like follow hockey and stuff. He pretty much said that there is no chance of us seeing hockey before new years.
Serious note:
Hopefully it will be like the NFL. Lockout up to the beginning to generate some buzz, get people interested, and finally start the season. Man I hope I'm right, no NHL is going to blow
Well i live in winnipeg and we just got out NHL team back so the city would be irate if they locked out. The whole city would burn winnipegers are nuts.
I'm not a huge hockey guy, i enjoy watching the games and stuff but most of winnipeg love there hockey.
Bahahaahaha, Oilers... every year. You guys are like Charlie Brown trying to kick a football. Anyway, there will be a lockout but it'll likely be 2-3 months, not a whole season.
This is the main reason I prefer to watch college hockey. Most of them are playing for the love of the game, it's not such a job yet. Games are way more exciting imo. They seem way more intense even without the fights. I'll take hockey east over NHL any day of the week and twice on Tuesday.
I'm a US citizen and I fucking hate football. If there is no NHL the only sport I'll have to watch is skiing since formula drift is over and WRC is almost over:(
even if they had to rent university stadiums, or smaller arenas for a few years people would still watch. NHL players get more money from NHL profits than the owners do. You piece of shit.
I personally don't like hockey, so therefore its less time on sportscenter=more time for sports I enjoy. Other than that I feel bad for hockey, because the last time there was a lockout they lost TV licenses and popularity, now when its starting to get going again, this will happen again and kill the sport again, poor move by the NHL to do everything possible to avoid this.
Ah, I was confusing ESPN's Sportscenter with TSN's Sportscentre.
Fundamentally different programming. Since ESPN stopped broadcasting NHL games there is very little coverage of hockey on Sportscenter. This would obviously not be the case in the Great White North. :)
No I mean prior to the lockout a few years ago it did get decent coverage, yeah they blow tebow out of proportion, and make a 20 minute story about how Jerry Sandusky takes his coffee, and how long it takes lebron to do his laundry, but the lockout killed any coverage and TV deals the NHL had, and it will do the same here.
My bad, all I remember was the first time round most of their games got knocked down to vs which is a low level channel, because of the lockout. However if there is a lockout, can NBC opt out of the deal?
in 05, they ended up on OLN in the states for national coverage, which almost nobody had. regional affiliates still carried games however, and NBC has covered the playoffs/cup finals ever since.
Then OLN changed it's name to VS, and now is NBCSN.
I'm not here to prove you wrong or say you're not a fan or anything. I'm answering your questions.
NBC cannot opt out of the deal by the way. They are firmly entrenched, and will pay the NHL whether there is a lockout or not. (which is a pretty fucking fraudulent way for the owners to collect cash..)
