more likely you have just bought into the advertising hype and the employee has been skiing long enough to know that it's just a piece of wood you slide down hills on.

There's a few "bootfitters," at the Colorado Ski and Golf in Aurora, that are absolutely clueless. Last time I bought boots I taught the person how to tell if a shell fits, along with some other basic tests. I also explained to him how the Intuition Liner molding process works. I pretty much did his job for him and walked out with good boots.

This. Honestly if you make yourself seem pro as fuck they'll actually care. Self yourself up a ton, act like you're on a bunch of teams and shit. They'll give you great service, their best employee, and sometimes discounts.

I went it last year to get my bindings on my chronics moved from recommended to dead center and basically they told me they wouldnt do it because they arnt supposed to be mounted there so after a bit of arguing i took my business to the other shop in my area and had them do it...

This is what happened when I bought my boots this year.

I had someone that was completely clueless and he wouldn't shut up about how the boot looked. He even asked me what I was doing when I took the liner out to see if the shell fit. I would have walked out if I didn't know I was going to get a good deal.

that always happens in my area with surf shops that try to sell ski stuff they have told be that afterbangs are the best skis that u can buy for park skiing compared to any other they are better

Ah still remember a few years back getting my Anthems (100% symmetric skis) mounted at my nearest ski shop. Quoting the employee "True center !? That is stupid, you don't want to ruin the skis do you? Never mount a ski dead center." I then proceeded to speak with the guy BEHIND the counter. We both had a good laugh.

Haha that is exactly how I feel when I go to car dealerships. As for my local ski shop, the people that work there are extremely knowledgable and awesome, and probably know a hell of a lot more than I do about skis/boots/bindings, so I tend to trust their judgment.

When I went there, the guy was actually pretty helpful and knew a lot about the fit of different boots and the liners and stuff. But I definitely believe you... there are some people at ski and golf that don't know much about skiing.

The assholes at my shop basically refused to mount my park skis at true center so I had to settle with schizo bindings. I moved them to center and kept it like that for the whole season and they made my skis super heavy.

There are few people who come in who actually know what they want or know the tech in the skis. Most people can be swayed into buying something completely different from their original idea of what they wanted

This is why I only go to shops that know me...they leave me alone unless they want to talk about new products/what's going on in the industry...they've stopped trying to "sell me" on anything...sometimes they ask me stuff about products they don't have/are considering getting, haha.

i won't even trust them to mount my skis any more i have a small shop called larsons di it they are amazing, although one plus side is last year i got a discount because the boot fitter said that my boots were damaged because they had a scratch on the insole....

Honestly I have never had a customer who was after boots who really new anything. You get the kids coming in thinking they know everything but you just sit them down, ask them a few podetiry questions and then they usally shut up and let me do my job.

Its a very satisfying feeling showing some cocky customer that the small amount of knowledge they learnt online is nothing compared to what is actaully needed to be one of the top bootfitters.
