Versatile Pow Skis

Hey NS, I am looking at some new pow skis that can still rip after the powder is all gone. I am 16, 6'3, 170 lbs, and would like a stiffer ski that can stomp big cliffs and kickers. I have mainly been considering the Armada JJ, and Magic J, but I will also be open to other considerations. I know that the Magic J's are a brand new ski, and not many people have skied them, but I am really interested in how you guys think they would handle all around conditions. Right now, I am skiing Hellbents, and they are way too soft and heavy in my opinion. Also, I ski at Squaw, so whatever I choose has to be versatile since even on the deepest of days, most of the mountain is tracked out by noon.

Since you're looking into the Majic J/ JJ I presume you want a twin rockered freestyle backcountry influenced ski. From what you have said it sounds like you would appreciate a stiffer ski. Out of the skis I have skied it sounds like the ON3P Caylor would be ideal. Their medium stiff flex means you can stomp all day, the bamboo core gives you good pop and the ski feels lively and playful when I want but when I need it it's stiff and stable. These skis munch wind effected, crud and any other variable snow condition. Considering their width they're pretty decent on groomers. If you are a lighter skier the Caylor Lite might be worth taking a look at too.

189 4frnt Turbo.  Rip pow, kill crud, smoke groomers.  Rocker for float, camber and a stiffer flex underfoot for stability and grip.

And you can find them on sale for cheap.

the day i rode the magic j, the snow was heavy and most ppl at the resort quit by lunch. but these skis absolutely destroyed the snow, making it easy in the worst kind of snow conditions. so much surface area to use.

i would say they are versatile in that respect. they smooth everything out.

Im about you height and weight and i ski the AK JJs and they are amazing, They are really stable on the groomers and they will stomp any clipp and even booters. Super good ski all around the mountain. I skied in 6 feet of fresh pow in 2 days and the AKs floated so smooth i couldnt be happier.

On this note, if you are looking for something a little more big mountain jib specific, check out the YLE. I ride that ski absolutely everyday, and it rips. great float, almost symmetrical, rips everything well!
