The Pros and Cons of jailbreaking an iPhone

I want you to post em, because i'm in doubt when it comes to this.


I have an iPhone 4S, and the only reason i don't jailbreak my iphone is because of crashes / the phone getting buttfucked / my warranty not being valid anymore, or whatever. Also, does the jailbreak itself take up a lot of space?

So this thread is actually just why/why not jailbreak.. for me. If you have a jailbroken I-device, can you tell me about your experiences/what jailbreak you have and if you recommend it.

jailbreaking generally kills the battery. its a hassle. ive had an iphone for a couple years now (from 3G-4S) and havent even come close to wanting to jailbreak it.
just dont do it and save yourself the hassle. the phone looks nice already and its nothing special.

Well you can't hurt your phone, draining battery is the only legit complaint ive ever seen even tho I havent noticed it at all I mine. If anything goes wrong with the install you just put your phone in DFU mode and restore, super simple stuff. As far as advantages go, isn't free apps enough to entice you? it's insane what you can do with a jailbroken iphone

pick your poison

I used the redsn0w, works great, no crashes. I haven't done anything too crazy with it, just unlocked it to use with other carriers (major advantage)

if you're afraid of the consequences (which are zero) of jailbreaking your phone, you probably just shouldn't do it.

Seeing as my jailbreaking experience is limited to my roommate being really into it last year, I would assume you would never pay to jailbreak you iphone unless you're a legit retard.

When I jail broke my phone it was awesome...for the first week or so. The battery would constantly be drained and my phone slowly got slower and slower until I was waiting up to 30 seconds just for my messages to open. I decided to get rid of it and it was much better. Free apps are cool but I just dint see much use for most of them...

I used absinthe (found here: http://greenpois0n.com/) and it worked fine, there's no noticeable battery drain nor does it slow down your phone, at least in my experience.

I think the problems that people have with jailbreaking may also be due to the iOS/device that they have. For example, I noticed that when i downgraded my iphone 3g to 3.1.3 it operated much faster than it did when I jailbroke it on 4.1

i jailbroke my ipod touch a while ago when it was the cool thing to do and i woke up one morning to discover that all my music, photos and videos were gone. i may have just downloaded a bad file from somewhere i dunno, i guess just be wary of things that you download.

Here is a good website run by a buddy of mine with Jailbreak tutorials and lots of info... he is bit of a whizz at all that shit... must admit, his iphone is cool as fuck and does a lot of snazzy things....
