this thread needs to be killed.. but since it persists on the front page, i'll offer OP some advice.
get the fuck off NS, and to go
if you're half serious about it, make an account and start talking to people who actually know/drive/wrench these cars.
for 10k, you're probably going to be looking at a 2.5L mk1 boxster. if you can find a 2.7 (or best yet, an S), take it to a reputable shop for a PPI and make sure that deferred maintenance has been taken care of.
porsches are generally over-engineered and extremely reliable given that preventative maintenance is kept up
find a good independent mechanic, parts source and buy some tools/manuals if you're worried about excessive costs. you're not looking at much more $ (if anything) than any other higher end european car.
early boxsters are remarkably well balanced cars, and have more than enough power to get you well into more trouble that your abilities will allow.
if you're prepared to learn that car and how to benefit it, ownership will be highly rewarding.
If you're in it because "I can buy a porch-a for 10gZ", don't... go buy something less demanding of your time, money and efforts.
-if you're into this, you can PM me. I can offer you some insight into porsche ownership.
