If you dont have a slight mancrush on John Mayer then you're gay, also probably one of the most talented musicians of our generation. He does have some very fruity/girly songs, but these are some of my favorites.

True, he is ridiculously talented, but now he'll never tour again because he didn't let his vocal chords heal, and he'll be playing country for the rest of his life. But that being said, his "Where the Light Is" days were unreal.

His radio stuff is god awful..all that tween garbage love song crap that gets repeated on the radio should never be played again

his blues styled songs are AWESOME..so talented and I feel he is very underrated and doesnt get the credit he deserves for being an amazing guitarists because he puts out so much teeny bop crap

as someone who is very familiar with tosin and mayer... john would run complete circles around tosin. tosin isn't even that technical. he's just damn fast and clean as all hell. also he likes 9s and 13s.

John Mayer may be a talented vocalist but he doesn't have the most creative lyrics ever. If his songs had deeper meaning and more depth to them they would be much more entertaining and easy to listen to. I enjoy his voice but i'm dissapointed in his creativity. Somehow I find him strangely similar to Jack Johnson? Maybe i'm just weird.

tosin's playing is theoretically, rhythmically, and dynamically dry. it's good for a metal player and the meter changes are kinda cool but other than that what separates him from yngwie or moore or beck or morse or any of the other shredding greats? they atleast pioneered something.. and no i don't consider "djent" pioneering

also, i hope you all realize that john mayer's playing is really just watered down SRV

ehhh I don't know if that's entirely true. Mayer is certainly a product of his influences, namely SRV, but I think he adds something to that which gives his playing value. He's kind of a Hendrix/Clapton/ SRV hybrid creature that also has pop appeal. I think guys like SRV and Hendrix obviously get the credit given they came first, buy Mayer could hang note for note with any of those guys and then sell a million copies with your body is a wonderland as the lead single.

do you think it's fair to list hendrix and srv separately? cause stevie was LARGELY influenced by hendrix.. so by default mayer has a lot of hendrix in him.

don't mean to sound pretentious genuinely curious about your opinion.

I think it is, for someone of John's or our generation they were pretty different players despite the fact SRV channeled a lot of Jimi. John's done a pretty good job of combining the kind of rock star persuasions of Jimi and the slightly more straight forward blues playing of SRV. I think John's cover of voodoo chile is a good example of that.

And yeah, I feel you on the Tosin thing.
