People take professional sports way too seriously.
I do agree that all these lockouts are fucked up though. If you aren't going to pay the people who are making you all the money their fair share then something is wrong.
Are you serious? I get lockout's and why they happen, but to stop a season because you want more money is fucking ridiculous. In most cases, athletes are pulling in millions a year. I realize hockey is sort of an exception because a lot of players actually make under a million but its not like they are losing their livelyhoods by not getting more money...
They get paid more money than most people will ever see to play a game. A game they love and love to play. The lowest paid player still pull in close to half a million a year. How is that anything to complain about? I have no sympathy for them at all.
biggest issue is the loss of popularity of the respective sport.
what i get from american sports is that NBA, MLB and NHL were a lot more popular but all have lost fans to some extent to the NFL because it operated fairly normal (i know, last year was close, but no games were cancelled) for the last 20 years or so.
the owners and the players risk the popularity of their sport because of 5-10% here and there and thereby risk even higher financial losses.
its not the players who want more money its the owners of the teams. theyre the ones who are complaining that they aren't getting paid enough. they think that they should get more money while the players get less
ah. Yeah thats fucking stupid. I feel like hockey players are the least likely to complain about salary. Its those NBA and NFL greedy little fuckers that are the problem.
