I wonder if there will ever be a time where both democrats and republicans realize what they've been doing was just stupid, and have one of those ashamed moments where everyone apologizes to each other, then unite to do good.
Agreed. I also hope that this presidential election is the last one that is so bitter, angry, and divided. There is so much angry rethoric (on both sides) that no one is talking about actual plans or policy which is what the country needs desperately.
Ha. It will continue to get angrier, just like it has for the past few elections. America eats this crap up, look at what people watch on tv. We are no longer a nation of substance.
abraham lincoln declared war on the confederate states of america to preserve the union. later on in the war, January 1, 1863 to be exact, it became the war to end slavery when pres lincoln gave the emancipation proclamation. the south was scared that good ol' abe would take away their slaves, which made them wealthy. so him fighting a war that took away slaves from "rich white people" and then saying he was trying to preserve it is retarded.
Here is something you will never see today... the 1984 election where Reagan defeated Mondale in every single state except Minnesota and DC (Mondale was from Minnesota)
i bet 50$ right here that 50% of americans either hated lincoln back when he was president or would hate if he was the current president right now.
obviously, he is one of "those great men" in history. but that has more to do with him being a distant memory and obviously with him being assassinated.
2 of the few presidents that are widely considered to have been "great" were shot during their time at the office (lincoln, jfk).
obviously he "ended" slavery and reunited the US (idk too much about american history) but not solely for the purpose of humanity.
semi-related:
I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races – that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything.
I know but to quote him, "in every single state except Minnesota and DC." And I said DC was not a state, and I lived there about 2 years ago, so I fucking know that they vote and everything. And whats funny is that we got taxed without representation, which is one of the reasons why the US started, "No taxation without representation." The license plates nowadays actually say "Taxation without Representation."
lol
If, for some utterly stupid reason, the north and south were to engage in another civil war, who would win NS? (only states that were part of the original conflict are involved)
