Need Advice: Ski boots for backcountry/park??

I need to get new boots this season and could use some suggestions of good boots to look into. I ski park about 40% of the time, all mountain 30% and backcountry 30%. I'm looking for a boot that will do good in the park and one that I can go skinning in also. And by skinning I mean actually hiking a few miles a day at times, not just sidecountry. I was wondering if maybe a walk mode would help with that? I have a fairly narrow foot and around $600 to spend. Advice?

It is unlickly you will find a boot which will work well in the back country and the park. Those to aspects have very differnt requirments. Park boots need to be strong, and backcountry boots need to be light and have the ability to walk in them. Unfortunatly the more moving parts for things like walk modes mean that backcountry boots wont really be durable enough for the park.

You will have to scarfice either durability in the park or performance in the backcounrty.

This is what you'll have to do if you want one pair of boots.

Or you could buy a cheap used boot for park (ski swaps or Outlet stores). Then buy a nice BC boot. Personally I have two boots. Atomic tracker 100 for work on the mountain (the softer flex makes it easy to work in). And Im in need of a new boot for just skiing mountain. Im looking for a 120-130 flex boot.

Also ask your boot fitters. They usually have last years boots or trade-ins. That varies shop to shop.

salomon quest boots are a pretty good in between that should work for both

^You would defiantly want to avoid the old quest boots, but the new quest max boots are really good. But still you would not want to take them in the park

fuck a quest, get a ghost or something. I would look into a dalbello krypton, its got a pretty small last, like 98 mm i think. Go to a boot fitter, but tell him your looking for a one boot quiver. Something thats not too soft, but not too stiff. Salomon has new cross max boots where the whole bottom is moldable. They may not be the best in the park but something you might want to check out. Boot fitters will answer all the questions you have

Sweet thanks everyone, I'll look into the salomon and dalbello boots. I wish I could afford two pairs right now, that would be ideal.

I rock the full tilt classics and I love them. When I'm skiing pow I switch my young and put the #8 flex toung which is stiffer and the I rock the #4 flex toung when I'm skiing park and anything else. It works well for me and the boot is fitted for my foot. Make sure to go to a boot fitter before you make a

Lots of helpful info +K. I've got a narrow foot. My old boots were Salomon SPK's from like 4 years ago and I'm basically swimming in them now, time for a new pair.

you might wanna try on the nordica firearrows. they have a progressive flex so the flex is soft when you are trying to balance on a rail but stiffens up when you are going fast in the backcountry. try it on, make sure it fits. good luck
