Tucker Perkins goes 40 ft out of the halfpipe VIDEO
Simon Dumont obliterated the world quarterpipe record spinning a corked 900 tail grab 35 feet into the stratosphere above his home mountain of Sunday River, Maine. Simon is awesome.
Not to seem like a stalker or a hater, but Tucker Perkins facebook is pretty atrocious. I added him because I thought he was rad on the skis, and he is. Once he accepts, I do the initial scroll through the photos hoping to see some epic pipe shots, which there were some. Between some epic shots is just pic after pic of him flexing or with his shirt off looking pretty Jersey Shore. This ad did not really surprise me, but I mean I guess to each his own.
If its a commercial targeted at the mass market but using an 'extreme' skier to make them cool I'd say they have their market dead on.
Your average person wouldn't care about the nuances of calculating height. Not one bit.
We should be STOKED on this though. Its awesome to see more mass market stuff utilizing skiers in main stream media. We can all stay core, and let the corporate dollars flow in.
Difference of opinions I suppose. Maybe if you're working in the ski industry you'll prefer more corporate dollars flowing in, especially if you are running a site such as NS. For someone such as myself who has been around "freeskiing" since 2000 I could care less about the corporate dollars. The are more then enough selection of skis and gear to keep me satisfied. The resorts are gonna keep their corporate dollars flowing regardless. I hate seeing freeskiing promoted to people in a way, such as this, that makes us look like vein, egotistical, bro-bra, douchebags. Promoting skiing as the "cool" thing to do. Skiing isn't about your hair, it is about getting outside, enjoying the fresh air, hanging with your friends, and having a shit ton of fun.
So I ask you this, why should I care about the corporate dollars flowing in?
