Claiming skis on travel insurance

so basically i blew an edge on some rocks, got my skis serviced, skied them for another two weeks, water got in, took them back to the shop and they said they were total-fucked and i should claim them on insurance

so should i run them over with a car and say that that was what happened or should i say what actually happened and risk not being covered

my insurer is a mountaineering one and i am covered for repair/replacement of equipment

has anyone claimed skis on insurance before?

you can try to claim it but the adjuster may see the edge damage and say "you're fucked" because the skis were unusable before the car ran over them

you can't really see the edge damage much anymore its just the water damage is starting to pull the layers apart, skis were bought at about 1200 $nzd and the cover is like $700 per article

i'm on season in new zealand so got travel insurance although its pretty bague about whether it covers damage to equipment whilst using it

I claimed on my armadas back in january, got like 90% of the skis worth but because i billed for the bindings too i got a cheeky bit extra....i had to get someone from the local store write down some technical jargon to explain why they were unskiable too...hope that helps

If you're talking about BMC, they'll hook you up. Don't try to cheat the system, just be honest. Call them.
