Hey this will be my first year skiing and im super stoked. I have most of my gear and all I have to buy is my skis. I know I want a great all around ski that will last me a couple of years. Ive had people suggest the k2 revivals, Line masterminds, Line afterbangs, Solomon suspects, and Rossignol storms. Im am super confused and do not know which ski I should get. If so could you suggest a great beginner pow and park ski and tell me there ups and downs. It will help me out a lot. +k for good suggestions.
some basics that you should provide to get more accurate answers: Height, weight, where you live and what mountain(s) you plan on skiing? any experience with similar sports? (some people pick it up quick if they've bladed or waterskied or just generally a good athlete)
OP if this is your first year skiing, don't expect to be lapping the park and skiing pillow lines on powder days. It's really important you get a good set of basic skiing skills down first, these basic skills will allow you to progress much faster in both the park and back/slack country environments.
i wouldnt suggest the line afterbangs or masterminds personally because they are known to fall apart, the k2 park skis are all pretty good and should last awhile, and lastly are you looking for a pow ski and a park ski or a ski you can use in both pow and park?
Bear in mind that some pow skis like Atomic Bentchetler can do some park, but no dedicated park ski will do powder, just too narrow. You might want to look at a freeride ski with a waist of 95 - 110 mm. That will do both - not great - but good enough if you're starting out.
basically, look for a ski between 90-100 in the waist and with a size in the 170s. With that length you will still have stability but it is short enough that you will be able to control it once you get the hang of skiing. Also i would not recommend going over 100mm in the waist width, as anything bigger requires you to have more control to edge the ski, which is something you don't want as you're learning to ski. Also anything thinner than 90 in the waist will be difficult in the pow. the ARV and the S3 were the two that came up off the top of my head, but look around as there are quite a few skis that would work for you within that range.
learning to do park was easier for me on a stiffer ski. it was nice having a ton of stability since i wasn't all that playful yet. the wall or the ar7 would be good choices. you can pretty much bring the ar7 all over the mountain.
other pow/park options are the on3p jmo, line chronic/blend/bacon, armada arv.
any dedicated park ski is not a good ski to learn to shred on as you can't learn proper form with a symmetrical ski as quickly. as far as sizing goes look in the 170-176 range
