Pretty sick, where did you film those powder shots?

first off, your bumper looks a lot like eheath's.

The first minute is really slow and honestly not very interesting. I was bored fairly quickly, which, is the last thing you want to do to a viewer with your reel. Keep them excited and entertained. With that said,your reel should be atleast 2 minutes shorter.
Your reel should be your absolute best of the best shots. I know it is hard to cut so many shots because you have this personal attachment to them, but you have to let some shots hit the editing room floor.
You've got a lot of great shots in there, they are just too far in between the mediocre ones ya know?

if you make it back up the 542 next winter let me know, my buddies and i have been filming around here for the past 2 season and we got lots of secret pow pow spots for those we like.

Oh and I enjoyed that lots, liked the color throughout.

It does, we are in the business of filming; it has the look of an old video camera. It is also not my standard bumper, and I think he probably knows that.

The first section was slow to wait for the build up of the song, I agree needs to be tightened up a bit.

Now, I am just playing devils advocate here - 1:30 might not cover everything I wanted to put in there, since this is how I make my living I like to cover broad spectrum of subjects for future business. As you and I both know action sports don't pay the highest and sometimes you gotta put some filler in there to grab others.

I am always open to cutting shots, and yes it is hard to do but saying I should cut the video by 60% does not really give me much of a critique. I sorted through my library and grabbed what I thought were some of my better shots based on color, subject, and composition.

I understand what you mean by covering a broad spectrum of subjects. I guess at this point, it is hard for me to critique a reel that is 3:30 long, so some of the best advice I can give is to say you should cut it down a bit. Perhaps not 60%, maybe down to 2 minutes or so. If you are going to have a reel that is 3 minutes long or so, you need to tell a story with it. Perhaps incorporate a couple songs that will then portray certain emotions for these different subjects. That way, as a viewer is watching your reel, they feel more involved and there is something else keeping them interested then just relying on your shots. Showcase your editing as well you know?


All I am trying to say is, over 3 minutes is a long reel. very few large productions I know have a reel that is over 3 minutes long. the last thing you want to happen to somebody (perhaps a future client) is to get bored or uninterested while watching your reel, so keep them involved in the edit.
