Good fisheye lens for t2i?

I have decided to get a t2i and I want to shoot freestyle skiing stuff and want a wide lens something like a fisheye.

im new to photography so any help is appreciated also my budget is pretty low i dont want to spend to much more then 200 - 300.

Rokinon 8mm has been stated as a good fisheye countless times on here.

anything cheaper would be terrible. get used to it man, photography is not cheap. a sub 300 dollar lens is considered cheap

looks like i gotta pick up more hrs at work hahaha.
 
do you know of any other lenses that would be good for shooting freestyle stuff? I was told the wider the better is that true?

haha it varies for each situation man. do you want zooms or primes?
here's my setup:
5D mark ii
sigma 24mm 1.8
sigma 50mm 1.4
rokinon 85mm 1.4
canon 70-200 2.8L

this stuff isnt cheap, but it'll last you a long time and will give you fantastic images (once you learn your camera)

my suggestion to you is basically the classic NS setup
tokina 11-16 or the rokinon 8mm if you like fisheye
tamron 17-50 or a wide angle prime like a 24/28mm
canon 50 1.8
canon 70-200 f4

Hey im having trouble trying to decide if i should just buy the t2i body or if i should get the kit lens,

if i got the body i would buy either a fisheye or that wide angle lens you talked about which one would you say to get?

or should i get the body with the kit lens and skip the wide angle?

im trying to shoot freestyle skiing and scenery stuff so i thought the wide angle and body would be better but not sure.

is the kit lens even good?

hmmm, well first off, dont buy the kit lens, just get the body. Next pick up a nifty fifty (50mm 1.8) they are dirt cheap now, you can find em for like $60 in photog forums. Now i'm a bit hesitant on what to suggest for you to get in the WA area, as your budget is a bit constrictive. If you really like the fisheye look, go with the rokinon 8mm. It's an excellent lens. This leaves a gaping hole though, and i'm not sure what to suggest based on your budget. Many will say Tokina 17-50 2.8, which is a great lens for photo and video and will run you about 300-350. Or you might want a faster lens (one that lets in more light, so you can use it at night or low light situations) like a 30mm 1.4 prime. It's tough to decide for you, if you have friends with camera gear that you can play with, i would suggest that. see what you like!

im not sure if that is a good lens or not how can you tell?

also what do you mean by it leaves a gaping hole if i got the rokinon 8mm?




and sadly none of my friends do anything with photography or filming besides using a gopro so i dont really have a lot of people to talk to besides people from stores but they just say what you wanna hear so you buy it haha.

haha sorry to confuse you, I meant having an 8mm lens and a 50mm leaves a big hole, as in there is a huge difference between the 2 and you need to get another lens to fill it.

The lens you linked to is the one i referred to (nifty fifty) that you can pick up used for super cheap. It's a great lens, a TON of people start with it.

okay so lets say i had $750 to spend on lenses which ones would you get if you mainly wanted to shoot skiing pics and some videos?

750 not including the camera?

tokina 11-16mm 2.8 ($500-550) im just not a huge fan of fisheye
either a sigma 30mm 1.4 / sigma 24mm 1.8 / or Tamron 17-50 2.8 (all 300, except 24mm which is 400)
canon 50mm 1.8 ($60-80)

ya its a bit over your budget, but thats what I would do. If you got the fisheye instead:

rokinon 8mm
tamron 17-50
canon 50mm

put the rest towards a tripod

Eventually you'll want a Canon 70-200 f4L

haha i think ill have to save up a bit for the Canon 70-200 f4L.


but thanks for all your help man i would be so lost without all the info you have given me hahah now ill i need to do is buy it and figure out how to use manual and what settings to put it on when shooting hahah

any tutorials or advice you could give me for choosing the right settings? i dont wanna use the presets it seems like a waste of money for all that stuff if all i use are the presets hah

shoot in RAW. i usually just leave my colour controls on "standard" because i like to colour my photos in adobe lightroom.

best way to learn that is put it on auto, see what the camera sets the settings at, then switch it to manual and copy those settings. Then play with each one to see what it does. You can't hurt it, so just play with it! BTW my buddy is selling his brand new T3i if you're interested, PM me
