sup ns. probably a little late for this but whatever. so im in marching band this year, and i play tenor. my mouthpiece is really old and poopy so im looking for a nicer one. nothing too expensive. also, more oriented towards marching style music, i will probably get another for concert. the jazz band thread was pretty successful so im hoping to get some good answers. thanks!
ya pretty much, when i was in 6th grade everyone had to play an instrument and towards the end of the year a substitute teacher asked me to play the c scale and i just went down the buttons in order.
Just to clear this up, I play in the jazz band and this is a great jazz mouthpiece, although its pretty mellow and you might want something hotter/edgier for marching. I'm not an expert on mouthpieces, but the metal links are supposed to have a bit more edge than the rubbers.
Whenever I buy new mouthpieces I just walk into a music shop and ask for someone who plays sax, then have them recommend one. I seriously doubt you'll get a solid answer off of a skiing website, ask a professional.
fuckin' sousaphone, man. Played from 5th to 8th grade. It was a horrible period in my life.
I play alto and bari, and my mouthpiece of choice is a Meyer 6. Try a bunch of the same mouthpiece before you buy one, two of the same mouthpiece can sound totally different.
It depends what kind of horn you have, what reeds you intend to use and your playing style. It's basically like asking someone what boots they should buy in relation to skiing. That being said, contact WWBW about their mouthpiece trial program and you should find something that you like.
