Buying used tamron 17-50 vs new one(build quality question)

I'm planning on getting a tamron 17-50 non vc before next season, but the question I have is, should I get a brand new one for £266 off amazon.com itself(not a reseller, so returning and warranty is definitely easy) or should I get a used one off ebay for around £200(although completed listings show that one sold for £160 last week) so I'm seriously considering that because of how much cheaper it is, but what would you recommend? the 5 year warranty would be great, also I've heard some people that have had to return theirs multiple times, so in another way that's making me hesitant to buy used.

buy it used. lenses can last a hundred years if treated right. the reason people have to return them is probably when they buy them new and it's not a sharp copy, this happens with off brand lenses sometimes. if it's used, they've probably got a good copy and therefore didn't need to return it, or have already gone through that process.

True, but I figured some may not realised if they have a bad copy, and just think it's a bad lense.

I got mine factory refurbished off of ebay and it has been great. If you want to ensure you get a good used copy, I would buy one off of a camera forum such as Fred Miranda or Photography On The Net, it may cost a little more, but the person selling it will probably know what they are doing and have taken good care of the lens and ensured it was a good copy. Good luck finding one! It is a killer lens for the price
