Skicross and Boardercross no longer part of X-Games

Via the International Snowboard Training Center:

"BREAKING NEWS X-GAMES Cross Events cancelled for 2013!

Coaches and Athletes,

Last night I was told by a Canadian Coach that X-Games had been cancelled. Like many rumors I was assuming that it was the same as always. But unfortunately this morning, this has been confirmed from multiple sources. The loss of another Premiere Televised Event for the sport of SBX and SX.
In what many consider to be the premier event for SBX and SX, besides the OWG's it has been cancelled for the WINTER-X Games of 2013. There was a possibility of having the cross events
in the Euro X-Games, but that will NOT be happening either, because the budget didn't allow for it.
They are HOPING to get it into Euro-X for the following season, or possibly ASPEN again. But that will remain to be seen. They site the operating model for the Global X expansion, in which different sports will be faded in and out to keep things FRESH as the reason for letting go of all CROSS events.
Last year they cut out snocross for snowmobiling, and that is coming back for this season."

eh skiercross is dece, sad loss, but hopefully this means that park skiing will have more money and the courses will be designed bigger and better. wonder if this has ramifications for olympic skierx

I guess it sorta makes sense, it does seem like more of a racing type event. That being said it was definitely interesting to watch, and I'm looking forward to it in the Olympics.

Damn, I hope the event can keep up. Without the X-games it's only really public appearance is the Olympics. It looks like a ton of fun compared to other racing events.

Looks like all those washed up racers will have to go get a job a few years earlier than they expected. Hopefully this will make room for skiing to be included in Real Snow this year. I just want to see exactly what Cam Riley would be willing to do for $50,000

Obviously you never been to Aspen. Im not saying its Silverton or Jackson hole but you could have BC course. Unlikely but possible.

i don't really care about them either. but sending the last jump on a sit ski is so fun to just even watch on tv. if they know what's up they should do sit ski real street

They cut it to make room for more snow mobiling events. Fucking lame. I actually liked the ski & boarder cross. I love to watch park skiing but its not the only type of skiing out there.

Skicross was definitely better than snowboarding, but it doesn't really excite me unless I'm watching it in the olympics (similar to swimming).

Ways to make skiercross more EXTRREEEEEMMME so that ESPN will be interested in showing it again?!?!

Put a rail in the middle of the course. A single rail. That all competitors must hit.

80ft pond skim.

Give spectators paintball guns.

At least one steep jump that encourages inversions as the fastest way to get over it. Eg. Handplant misty or a flatspin might be faster than straight lining it.

Strategically placed gapers on the landings of the bigger jumps.

Best for last: 12 skiers per race.

Well those were the least entertaining parts of X-Games. I just hope there will be an Urban skiing comp like Real Snow for the boarders.

It is ridiculous. As a ski cross racer myself I have some pretty strong feelings on the issue. However, it seems ridiculous they would take the only gravity sport out of X-games, a sport that has been in the games since the very beginning. Instead they want all judge events, ones they can control, manipulate and corrupt.

There are plenty of ski racing races out there. Ski cross is just for all of the ski racers to do and feel cool cuz they get to wear clothes that are a little baggier.

-K for you sir. One of the dumber replies I have seen in this thread.

Ski racers dont do this to feel "cool" because they get to wear baggier clothes. They do this because it is a different type of competition. It is head to head, contact, and pure aggression. It is a different type of strategy when compared to a GS, SL, DH, etc. There is an overlap between racers and Skier X due to the similar nature in terms of skill set, ski type, and speed. Ski racers do not participate purely to feel "cool".

As mentioned before. I don't care at all about skicross or boardercross. Those are lame as hell. Real racing is way cooler.

However, monoskicross/sitskicross was fucking AMAZING and will be missed. It's like extreme snow gokarting.

i guess i don't care all that much about them cancelling skier x, it's mad fun but not too great to watch, but i have a bad feeling that it's to make more room for snowmobile bullshit

I think Skicross is quite enough ˝extreme˝, on the last race of the world cup last year a guy actually died. Also, i would pick cross over snowmobile crap every time.

They'll prolly replace it with another 17 hours of snowmobiles going around a fucking track, cool.

Maybe they'll add a whole new snowcross race where the riders stop and eat a bowl of cereal every lap and they lose points for spilling any milk. That would be super fascinating.
