I think it should be almost identical to skate 3. Where the right joystick controls shifties and grabs. Like LT and RT are just the simple safety grab and then the right joystick control where your hands go. And clicking down the right stick activates butters.

i dont think lincolns should be changed to triggers. i use the lincoln function to off axis spins, and it would kinda just throw stuff off. and its really nice to have all of the stuff on one joystick

So I've been messing around with the triggers as lincoln loop using that driver posted in the original shred sauce thread. It works well. The triggers do detect sensitivity, so you can do slow lincolns. The one downside as malcolm brought up at some point is that you have to have your fingers on both rb and rt (on an xbox controller) in order to shifty while lincoln. This was awkward at first, but after about 10 to 15 minutes of play, it became pretty natural.

Ultimately, there are really only two viable options when it comes to mapping the lincolns. So why not prompt the player in the beginning to choose trigger controlled lincolns or analog stick controlled lincolns? This would make everyone happy, and plenty of games out there have alternate, preset layouts.

Move the lincoln keys, Im thinking right ctrl and 0. Thats what it is in freakout, and its really nice. also, bring back tweaked safety?

I'm fixing the keyboard controls right now and came up with this layout:

Before bashing it, here are some things to consider.

There's a limit to the number of keys you can hold at the same time and it's different for every keyboard. Let's say you're in the air. You're probably varying between either the left/right and up/down arrow keys. You might replace one of the arrow keys with a lincoln key. You're also grabbing so that's an extra key. 2 if you're tweaking the grab. That's 4 keys. The max on my keyboard is 4-5 depending on which keys are being pressed. It has to do with the way the circuits are arranged on your keyboard.

The modifier keys (Shift, CTRL, Command etc) combined with other keys do different things depending on your OS. I want to find a solution that works for everyone so the layout I made doesn't have them anymore.

Keys that go together can't be placed far away from each other.

Where would you put the shifty keys? Remember that they have to be accessible for every grab and they can't be any of the keys that I grayed out.

I made them F and J in my little mock up because they're closer to the center. They also act as shifty keys. So let's say you're grabbing mute with the Z key and want to tweak it with the ' key. You're fingers would be too far apart.

^^I can't make Space the shifty key in the air because there has to be two keys

I'm starting to think this won't be very good. One thing is people are going to be pissed that it changed. But the current keys let you keep your hand in one spot so you don't always have to looks at the keyboard. Someone suggested putting the shifty keys on E and R which I actually think would be really nice. I'd have to move Restart to the Enter/Return key.
