Skiing Scholarships For College

I was curious if any colleges or organizations are throwing money at skiers for college. Anyone have any information on that?

There are quite a few New England and Western colleges than have very serious race programs that will give scholarships. Some colleges also might to a scholarship for a bump program/team.

As far as jib/jump freestyle...no.

I know that USC has a pretty popular big mountain and park team that possibly gets scholarships but that's what I'm guessing myself and most of the people on here would want. Big mountain or terrain park scholarships. It's a lot to ask for but why not?

Many reasons, but most simmer down to $$$. All the teams that have racing programs are either VERY old, or had the funds at the time to put it towards a race team. Dartmouth has had a ski team for about a century now I believe. Or close to it.

The USC team is a club team, which isn't directly affiliated with the school's collegiate sports, therefore there aren't any scholarships available for it. :(

Where is the money coming from? It would be rather hard. It would be primarily between Utah and Colorado schools. You could eliminate the EC due to terrain.

I've never heard of scholarships. I imagine racing could see some financial aid as it is a competitive sport.

My school (Fort Lewis College) has a big mountain ski team. One of the requirments is that you must compete in two events in the season!

Maybe once the world sees slopestyle in the olympics, colleges and universities might view it as a more viable sport for scholarships.

you have to think what benefits would college have by giving a skiing scholarship. Unless they are getting exposure in the NCAA there is little to no motive.

Melbourne University here in Australia has a pretty comprehensive scholarship scheme. We have a few skiers who race for us who are on scholarships.

me and my buddies gf always had this argument in college

why was she able to major in dance (basically a hobby) when i couldn't major in Skiing?

nobody hires a profesional skier for a certain job... they "hire" them because they are talented...

but dancers if you want to live of it you need to be hired and to do that a major helps..

maybe the PSIA could be a "major of skiing"

almost every dancer opens their own studio (self employed) and ends up teaching 5 year old remaining about their glory days..no different than opening a ski camp or training facility.  not that i would ever major in skiing since i suck but spending 200k to dance is just as stupid
