French mandatory for a job?

I'm flying to Montreal in a week and I've read in a few places that you have to be able to speak French in order to get a job? Is this true? Any info/help would be great, deciding if its worth applying for a work visa.

Depends on the job, if you're trying to get a client service/restaurant/selling or that kind of jobs where you have to interact with clients, then you need to speak a bit of french.
+ you might add the fact that we are in election atm, so the french debate is still going on

If you want to get a job where you talk to your boss and other employees only, then there shouldn't be any problem.

Where and why are you coming to montreal ?

The anglophone community in Montreal is much much larger an anyone makes it out to be.

Go west (Westmount would be a good place to start) and you'll fine lots of anglophone jobs. Downtown and such you can still get a job without being fluent, it's just very very helpful and you are much more likely to be employed if you do. Shop around, there are lots of jobs in the city.

I'm also planning on doing a student exchange for half a year and they say you cannot work during school because you'll only have a student visa. I hope it's not the same for you!
