Need help!!! Drill bit size for fks/pivot bindings

Depends on the ski, not the binding. 3.5 or 3.6mm if there's no metal.

It is ski specific depending on construction. One of the best bits out there that most shops should have is an Armada bit that drills the bottom out at a 3.5 and the top at a 4.1.... we have mounted 1000's of skis with this bit and it is amazing.

there is a thread over on the TGR forums that has downloadable paper jigs. they work really well, ive used them multiple times.

download one, and make a plexiglass jig for your BSL

i recommend just using the paper template. plexiglass leaves a lot of possibility for slight errors that can screw up your holes. mark a center line on your ski, tape the template on correctly, triple check your holes, tap the holes with a center punch, triple check again, and then drill and you're done

make sure you have:
calipers
masking tape
center punch
hammer
pozi drive screwdriver
3.6mm drill bit for no metal, 4.1 for metal, i recommend a ski specific bit as opposed to making your own with a pen cap or electrical tape. you spend a couple hundred bucks on the skis, don't cheap out on the bit

when you have the holes drilled knock all the shavings out of the holes, drop some wood glue in, and put the binding on. also make sure to put the screws in together. as they go in the holes they expand them, and if you put one in at a time they can open the hole unevenly and move the orientation of the binding. get a bite on one, then get a bite on the one diagonal from that one, and slowly work them down together. never over tighten them. get them very tight but don't wrench on them or you'll strip the holes. there is a distinct stopping point that you can feel if you do it carefully with the right screwdriver

Thanks guys like your fks brake bending video helped heaps. probably will use plexiglass have all the tools and that. i am not sure how many more times i will get up the snow the rest of this season and might get new boots next season so may wait a while before i mount them.

not heaps concerned about the skis they where only 100$ and bindings about the same but will still be incredibly careful not planing on buying a special bit.

Scale it in your image editor so that the scaling is right. Also duplicate the vertical scale and make a horizontal one to check too - on my printer I need to stretch the width more than the length. Eye up the holes through the binding before marking and drilling too.

after you've printed it measure the template and use the notches on the side to make sure your print scaling was correct

also if you're using plexiglass be careful drilling it since it can crack easily. it helps to put some masking tape over where you're gonna be drilling and take it very slow with little pressure. i would get a few extra pieces in case you crack them. but then again, i still wouldn't recommend using plexiglass

i made an fks plexiglass jig and it isn't nearly as accurate as the paper templates
