I have b rand new skis that i got at the beginning of the summer and i pulled them out yesterday and the edges were rusty. Can anyone tell me why or give me help on cleaning the edge?
It will rub off the first day you ski. If you are really worried you can use a gum stone to take it off or next time put a coat of wax on the base and cover the edge as well before you store them for the summer.
this gummy stone/ light grit sandpaper. At the beginning of summer or extended period of time without use you should
sharpen up the edges to what you would normally ride on, wax but dont scrape turn the din to the minimum on your bindings (dont forget you've done it though, i write a note so if im being thick ive got no excuse) and keep in a dry temperate environment.
Steel wool will work too. Nothing major to worry about. It will come off when you ski, or if it really bothers you you can get a tune or use the methods suggested here.
Make sure you always wipe down your skis with a cloth or towel before storing them. I always do this after I'm done skiing. This will keep the rust at bay. Use a gummy stone to remove the rust or take them to your local shop to give them a tune up if you are feeling generous. :)
When you have the din at whatever level is is under a constant pressure as to be a resistance to you clipping out. Springs under pressure for extended periods change characteristics and so dont perform the correct way for a binding. Its not so much of an issue throughout the season as you change the pressure on it with your weight but over summer or whatever it lays stagnant and you can get about an extra half season of life out the bindings before inconsistencies with retention come into play so it is worth it. I was first intoduced to the concept through 4frnt tech talkseries 1 they did an ep on summer storage an did a series on the tech in a ski which is good to know when picking new skis etc, worth checking out.
