Both have early rise in tip and tail. What are your takes on these skis? I want a ski that can rip turns but also destroys park. Had ar7's, loved em but its time for new skis and Im curious about this early rise movement.

When you mean rip turns do you mean you want to be able to take it all over the mountain? Chronic will defiantly be a bit more versatile. I have the 10/11 Chronics. Haven't had a chance to ride the new ones, but Im pretty sure its safe to say the FR's will be better in every aspect in the park. They are light, poppy, responsive, and still stable for those big jumps. The chronics will be a bit heavier, with a little less pop. I think the early rise is going to help them this year, along with the cap wall construction. It will for sure be the best chronic yet, but not as good as the FR if your looking mainly for a park ski.

the chronic will be your best bet with how light the ski is with the cap construction and it can rip in the park really well and then on a pow day it can rip through the crud so go for it bump!

Something more similar to the Chronic would be the Jeronimo. Filthy's are fairly park oriented, completely symmetrical and 88mm underfoot. Jmo's are 101mm underfoot, slightly directional and a recommended mount of -4cm from true center. Jmo's are definitely a ton of fun and easy to rip all around the mountain, just the small changes to sidecut, dimensions and mount compared to the Filthy make it a lot more on point. You can ski rougher, variable terrain and snow easily on the Jmo, Filthy's park centered design makes it ski that stuff less so. If you spend about some of your time in the park but want a ski that you can still take out and ride anywhere in any amount of snow, its the Jmo all the way.

Thanks for your reply, i have had a wide ski and i wasnt that hyped on it. I grew up racing so i love to go fast and rip huge gs turns. I ski on the easy so we get few pow days as is. I figured just a bit of a rise in tip and tail would do the trick. I rode AR7's and loved the weight, and width. I just cant resist trying this new rocker park ski fad.
Have you riden both Jmo's and FR's?

I have, I'm one of the guys who builds them in Portland. I'd say you would be happier on the Filthy's over the Jmos. The Filthy isnt the most gs like ski out of our lineup (Tychoon or Wren come to mind), but its the quickest edge to edge ski that has a full twin. Early rise is plenty fun, but you should know that you do sacrifice a little stability for extra playfullness, the rockered tips and tails do shorten the overall running length of the ski and make it feel like its shorter.

so being around 5'7 and liking the size of my 171's wold you suggest the 176 vs the 171 due to rocker? would that make it more stable and faster?

That would be correct. I dont know if it will make it that much faster, but it will be defiantly be more stable.

176cm I'd say for more stability, its probably a little longer than what you're used to, but its not too hard to adapt.

The new chronic has no all mtn feel to it anymore. Just a light park ski.
Frs feel so much better
