This article isnt but the plans to do this link were put out a while back, no worries.
And people care because its tainting the wilderness/backcountry/environment. Maybe they can do it well but they still have to cut down trees and its a big structure.

i believe it's because SLC has a limited amount of fresh water sources, so it's important to protect those sources from potential harm

Fuck Skilink. It is the most pointless thing in the world. Oh I cant get more terrain? No thanks, I'd rather just drive the hour from the top of big cottonwood all the way to snowbird and get more terrain there. It's a stupid project and 15 years after it's built will probably be discontinued from disuse. Why would you make it canyons to solitude. Nobody at solitude ski or boards park so canyons is useless to them other than groomers. Solitude is full of gapes and theres always fresh pow but thats the only reason why a canyons rider would get a gondola pass.

They really should just build tunnels under the mountains, CO summit county style. Imagine the lineup going from pc to bcc/lcc on a pow day ha

SkiLink was killed before it even went before the legislature. However, the state of Utah is apparently suing the federal government over protected land rights, etc. Who knows, but seriously, don't try to sell it as an environmental move on Talliskar's part. That was simply idiotic.

because it further abstracts utahs wilderness areas, pollutes watersheds (despite what this guy is saying), and supports a massive multinational corporation.
Thats why people care. as a skier you should check it out, pretty interesting debate. Something we deal with a lot.
Also, not really old news yet. if it gets shut down it will be old news.
so no lol.

I wish the state would just do some work on Guardsmans and maintain it during the winter so I could get a Brighton pass. It takes a good 45mins or so to get to the proposed gondola location at Canyons, then a long ride down into Solitude, then up whatever lift at Solitude you want. You'd be making laps at Soli probably 11ish if you got to Canyons at 9. No thanks.

O you mean the one tunnel that takes a major interstate through Loveland Pass? The only resort that benefits is Loveland and well...nobody goes there. I think what you mean is a tunnel under the back side of Breck and through the 10 mile range to Copper or something to that effect. That doesn't exist but I guess it would be kinda sweet. Still, it's much easier to navigate around the mountains in Colorado during the winter than it is in UT. Building a tunnel/Gondola from PC to the Cottonwoods would have a much bigger impact on accessibility than in CO, which doesn't have or need tunnels.

wow, reading the comments on that article made it seem like Talisker hired some people do refute every point against this project!

I mean, from the entrances of guardsmens on each side (pc and bcc) is only like 5 miles, the tunnel in theory is very realistic, but i doubt it will ever happen.

Haha this made me laugh. The gondola will not be anywhere close to going over brighton
