Calling all Wordpress/Coding wizzards

My site is so close to being done. There's just a few things i need to fix but i cannot figure out. I think I might need to alter the code a bit.
Here she is:

My main problem is I want the background picture to be that of the mountains, but on all the other pages I want it to be a light gray, #CCCCCC to be exact.

how do I go about doing that?

Thats about all i need to do right now. Just need to finish uploading pictures to set up the gallery and then I will be done!

Let me know what you think of the site. Did I miss anything? I've put a LOT of time into it, made sooo many changes

That's something you're going to have to write into the php file, css is just going to be styles that the php calls for pages. Some of the wordpress themes have home page specific code and some even have home page specific files. PHP is a pain in the ass though, so good luck!

Someone else may be able to look at this and tell you exactly where and what to add.

Ok so this is in Appearance>Editor, on the right column it gives me this list of .php folders. Is this what I want? Which folder would it be in?

Again I hope someone can help me if I'm wrong, because I hav only diven in to php a couple times.

I don't think you'll be able to find a line in there that will specify the background. You might find a section of the php that describes the template for all pages, and calls styles. You'll have to separate out the main page, and then write css that styles it.

There may be an easier way to do this as well. I hope someone is able to help further.

That's a really messy way of getting the result you want. You should just set a grey body background on all pages and insert a full-page image on the homepage.

Otherwise you'll need to set a default grey body background in your stylesheet, and also define a class of body called "homepage" which has an image background. Then in header.php:

if( the URL of the page being generated is your home URL )
include class="homepage" in the body tag

You might be able modify the body style from within the body too. You're not meant to, but it works. I'll get some code for you to try tomorrow.

Doing this right now and its working. Just need to resize pictures to get em just right. Found a plugin that easily lets me set different backgrounds for different pages. Just a bit more time and I should be done!

OK, I figured it out for you, but you should still consider what I said previously as a neater solution. This may not pass through a validator, but it works:

In dynamic-style.php change the body { } definition to:

body {
#CCCCCC;
}

Then in index.php add the following code after the php which includes the call to the header (just search for "header" then dfin the next "?>" closing tag then add this on a new line:


body {
background: url(http://gccwebsites.com/brandonmoorephotography/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/co-mountains-bw-low-edit1.png) no-repeat center center fixed;
-webkit-background-size: cover;
-moz-background-size: cover;
-o-background-size: cover;
background-size: cover;
}


That should do it!

You posted this while I was posting the message above. That's a better way to go about it anyway so keep going.

And yeah, plugins for sure. Almost always someone will have had the same issue as you and made a plugin, which you can then modify if needed.
