Lol right, I'm sure both you and OP have access to the instruments and data as well as the requisite scientific understanding of climate to conduct comparable research and come up with solid, sound conclusions of your own. That's why we have experts in things, because not everybody can assign the same extensive amount of effort to understanding every area of study haha. What I think is especially funny about this is that the ESA is hardly a disreputable scientific source of information, and you decided to post this here in this thread, instead of the one suggesting that the recent string of mass shootings is a secret ploy by the government to tighten gun control , or the thread about the Illuminati and how Cars 2 is predicting a terrorist attack in London. Think, then post. Not the other way around.

you may not have noticed, but the US government is about to seriously subsidize farming again due to the drought this year. the last three decades have been the hottest on record, and this last july was the hottest month.

polar bears are losing habitat, and other ecosystems will experience change at constantly accelerating rates.  and disastrous oil spills are more common of an occurrence than you think.

but yeah  man fuck it, none of this could possibly be linked or have anything done about.  lets just burn more everything and fuck ANWR right?

For any big changes the government needs to set up policies about our fuels, etc. Me driving a Prius isn't going to do shit. There has to be a large scale change if we want anything to happen (come on Honda Clarity! <--its a good idea/car actually) Hey I'll do something about my emissions, etc. if everyone joins in, but as of now, we can only sit back and watch.

Oil in general needs to stop, otherwise it will most definitely run out soon, and then nobody can have a V8. Jay Leno said that best too, the zero emission/non-fossil cars will save the ones running on fossil fuels.

Not a conspiracy, I think it's pretty obvious.  Do I think humans are destroying the planet to some degree?  Yes.  Do I think people are profiting on either side (apparently trying to save it/wanting to drill more oil) absolutely.  Don't get on your high horse and think that this "green" energy technology isn't in it for the money.  Yes there area few people out there like skiers and other outdoors-man who actually care about the planet but the vast majority of people who make the BIG decisions that affect the planet have some hand financially in the pot.

Take me for instance.  I'm a mechanical sales engineer.  Sell mechanically designed equipment and make my money off of profit from the products we sell.  Green or rather more environmentally efficient products are more expensive thus higher profit margins.  Whose agenda do you think I'm going to support?

my freshman or sophomore year in college 2007 or 2008 I had an environmental studies teacher who said NYC would be under water by 2012.  As i look out my office's window between 44th and 45th i cant see water anywhere-wonder how the rest of his estaments went ?

Nothing's wrong with being skeptical but that's not what the dude was posting about. He was telling OP do 'do your own research,' which is largely inaccessible to the vast amount of the population who are not climate scientists. The closest thing normal people have to doing their own research is to evaluate what experts in a field of study conclude about phenomena, which OP obviously did if he brought the article here in the first place. Also, just to clarify, people who think that Climategate disproves climate change need to realize that they're falling for a Straw Man logical fallacy, and that they're not actually evaluating climate change and are drawing fallacious conclusions about it.

The whole taxing carbon things is fucking retarded. If you support that whole aspect then I feel sorry for you. Lol at buying carbon write offs to make yourself more green. You should go out and buy some condolences while you're at it.


That said, we really need to start doing something about the environment now. Instead of damming every river, cutting down every tree, paving every inch of land, putting a shitty factory everywhere so that acid rain rapes places farther down the weather pattern.

Unfortunately the way DC is lobbied I doubt we'll get anywhere anytime soon. Alternative energy is just another bullet on some shitty presidential candidates website these days. There just isn't a real effort to even try and and get that going.

We're kind of fucked, at least for a while. Sucks because even when you make changes, it takes a long time for them to really make an impact. I just hope we don't let things get too shitty before we start caring.

And yes that's what I was talking about. We can totally destroy the environment, but if we spend 50 bucks on some carbon certificates we're pretty much captain planet.

The problem is we are messing with the environment and effecting NATURAL weather patterns and fluctuations in climate. The earth will not go to hell. It may if wee keep doing what we are doing for 500 or 1000 years. I think we should be focussing on having the smallest environmental impact possible.

A bigger issue should be looking at the amount of resources we use globally, because when we run out of resource. we're fucked. The US uses 50% of all the resources used globally each year, its time to change that.

REUSE YOUR SHIT PEOPLE. WHIPE YOUR ASSES WITH RAGS, CUT DOWN ON PAPER, AND PLASTIC PRODUCTS. BUY YOUR FOOD, TAMPONS, CONDOMS, BEER AND VEGIES LOCALLY.

I never said paper isn't renewable. It's about how much resource we use. We are using more than we can make. 1 full grown tree = 10 rolls of paper roughly. Take that in consideration next time you use the restroom or buy paper products.

How about before we start skimping on ass wipage, we stop using disposable shit.

I remember seeing the news 5-10 years ago and they had this story on all the disposable shit and how great it was. One time use, cell phones, sunglasses, pretty much everything.

Doesn't really matter to us because we just consume everything. We live in a world where driving to the store and buying a bunch of disposable shit is considered less effort than washing the dishes.

Also as far as paper products. Just get rid of all the assclowns in our government and get hemp back in industry. That would be a huge fucking step toward going green. Is is going to happen within the next 10 years though? NOPE

Yes there is some debate about climate change, but yes, the majority of the scientific community has reached a consensus that humans are causing it.

All that aside, the impact to climate change is much greater outweighs its potential to be untrue. Let me elaborate. Let's assume that in the end it turns out that climate change is not happening and is not caused by humans. What's the impact if we adopt green practices now? We move away from fossil fuels and reduce pollution? Now let's assume that climate change turns out to actually be happening, and we don't try to change to more green ways of living. The impact is that we end up causing mass extinction, food shortages, biosphere disruption, and worldwide suffering.

The risk of the impact of climate change is too substantial to afford inaction. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain from environmentally conscious living.

TOTALLY. Thats what I have been trying to get at. What really pisses me off is the throw away bags in vacuums. I mean really? wouldn't it be easier just to put in a reusable bag. In my area it's illegal for stores to use plastic bags so everyone now goes to the store with reusable bags.

We have to look at reusing at home, and throwing away the least amount of products possible. It's cheaper and makes way more sense.

I still get the plastic bags a bunch but I reuse that shit. I have a stash of bags for when I need a bag for something. Then recycle if they build up. A lot of times I just carry my shit or put it in the cart bagless(not bagels).


One that gets me is the ridiculous amount of bottled water people go through. Since when did nobody carry around a water bottle(like a refillable one) Who the fuck pays that much money for an individual bottle of water that they can then throw in the trash instead of recycling. I do rock the plastic bottles some weekend though because a lot of places don't have water. If I'm camping in arkansas in the middle of the summer I need water. Those gallon jugs are the deal though. Then if you find a clean water source you can fill them back up.

I like that a lot of festivals are really good about the green. Having people stationed near the trash/recycle making sure that only shit that can't be recycled or composted goes in the trash, anything that can be recycled goes in the correct bin, and compostable stuff goes in there. Then sort through the bags around the campsites and sort out recyclables.


I don't expect any solid changes in environmental policies from our gov though. At least not any time soon. We'd pretty much have to remove everyone from office and start from scratch to really get things on the right track.


We're on a consume and dispose path to total shit show. I mean fuck. People get a drop of paint on a computer and throw it out and buy another one.(maybe not that extreme but that mentality)

Like seriously, you put all your shit in 1 trash can?? I was almost shocked on how few people actually did it. And the tap water was completely drinkable, and people still bought plastic waterbottles, and the threw them in the same bin with all the biological waste. I hope its not like that in the states tough.
Seriously, recycling, and not buying plastic water bottles doesnt take anything away from your life, but it still has a huge difference on the carbon footprint you leave behind.

WE'RE screwed, the Earth is not. The Earth will live on, with or without us. The politicization of the issue has made us look at stopping Climate Change like it's some sort of terrorist dwelling in a cave in Afghanistan. You can't stop a natural cycle like Climate Change. It's just that, a natural cycle which we may or may not have caused a hick-up in. Regardless of our effect (or lack-thereof) on climate, we need to stop debating our effect on it and move forward from this stupid alarmist distraction, the "WAR ON GLOBAL WARMING". Whether we are impacting the earth's long term atmospheric patterns may be up for debate, but the way we impact the rest of the biosphere is not. Instead of bickering with each other about it and not getting anywhere, we need to start actually looking at solutions to neutralize our impacts on the planet we live on which allows us to prosper off of our own ingenuity simultaneously.
