Hi. me and some friends thinking about skiing northstar, squaw valley etc. next winter. is it okey to live in tahoe city. or should we rent a condo in squaw valley or up @ northstar ? and how long is the bus ride to northstar or squaw. and how far is it to boulder?

dunno right now, but i would say pretty big. the states are pretty cheap when your norwegian:P haha

Yeah tahoe city is pretty cool. If you rent a condo i would do it at northstar. They are more of a village and have more to do during the winter. A bus rdie to northstar or squaw from tahoe city would be probably 20-30 minutes. Boulder isn't really even within driving distance from tahoe.

My friends and I used to rent out a place in Olympic Valley (Squaw Valley), definitely better than living at Northstar. We used to walk across the parking lot to the chair lift. Northstar is about 25 minutes away.


Squaw Valley is a world class ski resort, and you have Alpine Meadows right next to it. Northstar is little more than a terrain park. Northstar also gets packed on the weekends with long lines, the only time you'd want to go is during the week.

Tahoe City is a good place to stay if you're lookin to hit multiple north shore resorts (Squaw, Alpine, Northstar)
otherwise try South Lake for more of a social scene

okei. how's nightlife and the village in squaw? was in mammoth last year. so it would be nice if someone can compare squaw/northstar and mammoth :P

" Northstar also gets packed on the weekends with long lines, the only time you'd want to go is during the week." This applies to all the major Tahoe resorts; Alpine, Squaw, Northstar, etc. Squaw has unimaginable lines on a powder day.

Heavenly and Sierra at Tahoe down on south shore have pretty good parks too without the super crowds of Northstar

I've skied every resort in tahoe (besides Rose and Donner)
and Alpine Meadows is the best so stay as close to it as you can

Northstar is awful don't even bother unless its late spring
Heavenly is only good for like two days
Squaw is big and gnarly, but its just not as fun as alpine
Boreal blows, don't bother at all
Homewood is fun, but the terrain isn't as gnarly as alpine or squaw

either way Tahoe City is the shit, and squaw is defiantly one of the best mountains in the basin

You must not like riding park then. In my opinion, Boreal has been putting out some of the best parks in the Tahoe area these last couple years. They're always the first to open, night skiing is perfect when you have work/school in the day, and a Boreal season pass ,in some cases, costs less than half of what all the other resorts are charging.

If you are skiing mainly park you should look at Northstar for sure. I live right on the lake and I ski Northstar. The two most popular park resorts in my opinion are Boreal and Northstar, which are both located on Highway 80. Staying in Tahoe City, Truckee, or Incline village would work for you. oh yeah for sure, its super fun. but it doesn't compare to squaw and the lines you can find there

If that's the case then this is a no-brainer. I've been living in Oregon the last couple of years so I don't know. And while it's true Squaw can get crowded, you'll always find lifts with short lines. The same cannot be said for Northstar.
