Upgrading Laptop Question.

Hey guys so Im about to order some more RAM and a faster HDD with more memory for my MBP. I know how to use computers well but when it comes to fixing/upgrading I am a total newb. Tried searching around google a bit and could not find a solid answer so I though I would ask here. Am I going to have an issue with keeping all of my programs that only had one license on them , such as FCP 7 or The adobe suite when I change my harddrive? Or is that information stored somewhere else. I would hate to upgrade and then lose the software I paid money for. I know I could just torrent them again but I like having a real license for my editing software
Hopefully that makes sense and if anyone has done this or can explain the process to me, it would be very much appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that if you go to apple you could have them put the adobe suite and fcp on the new one. Hope this helps.

back up with time machine, then when you first boot up you will have the option to restore from TM, do that and your computer will be the exact same as it was before, applications and all

RAM is super easy to upgrade, just youtube it. As for HDD, why are you upgrading? seems like a big hassle for little improvement. Unless you're getting a SSD, there is no point upgrading. 7200 vs 5400 is hardly noticeable (really only when booting up and its like 5 seconds faster maybe) and unless your hard drive is 120gb, you probably have enough space.

Ya know I guess I just figured while I was in there doing stuff I might as well upgrade that as well. I only have a 350gb harddrive in it right now and sometimes I wish I had more space. Was thinking of putting a 1tb in it if I do just for the hell of it really.

I think he meant more the trouble of buying a new hd, just to have the same thing but bigger, and that it would be worthwhile if op went to ssd's because of the speed. externals are cheap, you should use one anyways to backup, and then you can copy to the ssd for current projects. But if he feels like it, then it really isn't hard
