Wow. Is it just me, or does anyone else find hunting to be for the most part glorified animal cruelty? Seriously, how does anyone receive gratification from killing something that has next to zero chance of escaping its pursuer? I am pretty fucking glad that I don't need to hurt an innocent animal to have a good time, and that I am incapable of causing deliberate harm to anything.
I get that once we all needed to hunt to provide food for our families etc. But come on, this is not a developing country, this is the developed world we are all blessed enough to live in. It is completely unnecessary suffering, and to one who values all life pretty fucking sick. Half of you probably never even consider the implications of hunting, and even say that you are doing the world a favour by reducing the amount of aniimals that are "overpopulating areas." But what the majority of people fail to realize is that these animals are being forced into human territory through destruction of their habitat or the fact that all of their natural predators are long gone because of hunting practices.
I find hunting to be for the most part completely inhumane. Half of the time when you shoot an animal, whether it be with a crossbow or a gun they do not die right away. Imagine the pain getting shot multiple times would cause, or the terror and fear that the animals must experience in their final moments? And whose to say that doe you just killed doesn't have a fawn that is still dependent on her hiding in the shrubs nearby? What about that mountain lion whose infant cubs are waiting for her to return in a cave less than a km away? How can one not consider these things, or what gives anyone the right to take away lives without thinking about the implications.
Disrupting migration, reproduction, or hibernation cycles of these creatures is as well not fair. Its estimated that for every animal a hunter kills and recovers at least two wounded but unrecovered animals die slowly and painfully of blood loss, infection, or starvation. Also, think for a moment about all of the hunting guns that fall into the wrong hands, or how many cats, dogs, or even people are wounded because of hunting each year. There is no"fair chase" in hunting - nothing is fair about using a powerful weapon against something that has no defense or any idea of what is happening. Cool.
One more thing. Most of the hunters I know have cats, dogs, horses etc. and all claim to love them very much. These animals would not be forced to suffer through death, or be killed for the fun of it. Yes they are pets, but at the end of the day they are no different from the animal that was just killed for the pleasure of it, and its not fair that they get to be recipients of a proper euthanasia.
Hate all you want.
