Does anyone know how early Bear creek usually opens? I might get a season pass there or at blue.

definetly. after a long day of skiing, i love some nice greasy pizza. I remember killington having awesome food and nightlife.

Check. It may not be this season (or who knows, it very well could be) I think I might do it. Winter camping in my opinion can be way more fun than camping when there isn't snow on the ground. In terms of an "NS feature" for our dream BC session, just put in a big ass cannon. I haven;t the slightest clue if one is already usually in your park, as I have never skied there; but cannons all day erryday!

As a matter of fact we put in a brand new big as cannon last year. I assume it will be in this year once we get the snow to support it.

^^ they do but it is not worth your money, the instructors have no clue what they are doing when it comes to park. You could get some lessons from yours truly for a small fee!

I have seen them ski. i've ridden bear for 7 seasons now and unless they get new freestyle instructors your better off teaching yourself or having someone who actually knows what they are doing teach you.

Not that I wanna add more to my job, but they should really integrate the freestyle program into park crews responsibilities. We know more about the workings of the park than the freestyle coaches and most of us probably rip better than the coaches anyway. That way we'd be out on the hill instructing and we could do a better job of educating everyone on safety while we're out there, shit some of the kids might actually listen to us then.

Not to take away from all the freestyle coaches, I mean they're not BEANS but some of em look like they aren't all bad.

I'd bet most kids could learn a thing or two about riding in the park from a lesson if ya really aren't familiar with park at all.

Oh man, I got half a mind to go under cover and pay for a lesson just to see what these kids are teaching. Pizza and french fry all morning then start tearin it up toward the end of the lesson.

yea the park crew is pretty good when i see them "on break" going on the park. So you work at bear creek? When i was 9 i got first timers lesson with my friends, loved it and then skiing was life.

haha nice use of quotes. Yea this will be my third year working park crew there. Been skiing at Bear Creek/ Doe Mountain for about 20 years now give or take.

wow... long time. any big air/ rail jams/ comps at bear? isn't there one called the big bear or something like that? i remember there being a bunch of tents set up and some "cool" kids drinking energy drinks

We had a couple competitions throughout the season last year. Rail jam/slopestyle/big air I believe, and i think they were cumulative points or something along those lines too.

I'd imagine they'll do about the same this year as well but I haven't spoken to the boss about it.

the comp scene at bear is pretty tight. wish i could have been able to them last season. Just a suggestion/idea an all day jam format slopestyle would be pretty cool instead of the 2 run xgames style.

9am-11am practice/elimination

12pm - 2pm finals

3pm - prizes

I could see that making for a much more chill and awesome vibe to a comp. I think the only problem with that is that it ties up the run and judges and such for a longer period of time. If they made it a bigger deal though with some other stuff going on up there I bet it would be cool though. Maybe some grilling going and some drinks kickin, people could just chill and watch all day mid mountain. I somehow don't think BC would go for that though.

I think the point beans was going for was that 2 scored runs aint much to go on, where as several hours of free flowing riding would make for a more creative and broader scoring comp.

this would be awesome, but they let entirely too many people into the comps. not sure how to narrow it down fairly, but let's be honest, in a comp like this, a little kids division is a waste of time. just do open skiers, open snowboards, and girls, and call it a day. limit it to 20 people per group, maybe with preapproval for registration by park crew after submitting video, photos, being a local ripper, etc to prove that you actually know what you're doing and you're not going to waste everyone's time. generally my only gripe with comps at bear is that they take so long because of all the participants, half of them not even capable of tricking the first jump from the slope course last year, for example. maybe i'm just a bitter old man, i dunno...

i think tom tried that 3 or 4 seasons ago with be BC Ironworks Invitational. It kinda worked but everyone who didn't make it to open just did the little kids and it still took all day.

isn't there like a waffle hut or something at bear creek? there seems to be one at like every resort...i got one at stratton and it was like 5 bucks for one but sooooooo good

i'm not getting a season pass at bear creek anymore. me and my friends decided that we want to put some "variety" into this season and go to a bucnh of different places in PA and VT

It's kind of a shame that PA doesn't do some kind of multi mountain pass. We've got quite a few hills around here, you'd think they'd offer some kind of multi pass deal. Competition must be too great here in the keystone state.

if you are in college Mt snow offers the higher education pass. the pass gets you in to Jack Frost, Big Boulder, Mt Snow, Croched, Attishash and some other mtn for $319  no black out dates its such a good deal!

im going to miss skiing at Bear this season. I just moved out to Utah for school and skiing but hopefully Bear will be open when I come back for winter break. Then I can shred with @lytesson and all you other park rats again.

btw. if you guys could all vote for my vid of my double backflip last season, it would be greatly appreciated!

yea true, but boulder opens earlier and stays open later than bear. Boulder is also 35ish mins from the college I attend. plus I have a few friends live near mt snow so I plan on pretty much living up there over xmas break. don't worry i'm still getting a bear pass.

Theres a bunch man, just drive up there and find one. Tons of places to stay in rutland and on the way up to killy. I know there is a best western like 2 miles from the access road.

Or get swanky and stay at the inn at the long trail.


But really just google hotels around rutland or mendon and you should find everything you need.

I'm telling ya though, take a look at a google map of the appalacian trail and camp out. Stuff some blankets in a sleeping bag and you should be fine down to like 10 degrees. It's free man......FREE. That means more money for food and beer, or candy if your 16 or so ha.

Unless you've never spent the night in a tent or something, in that case you probably want the best western haha.

Sup fellas? I'm a Bucks County native currently in grad school at Villanova. I normally ski Blue Mt or Bear Creek but I'm down to explore further north if anyone knows a good trip.

I second setting up a BC NS session. I had more fun there last year than Blue Mt although I want to utilize the big air bag this year to practice big tricks.

Glad there's some local people on this site!

thanks. we are staying at a ski in ski out condo at pico. its right next to killington so we can just drive there from pico, like a >10 min drive. and i am pretty sure we can ski at pico at the end of the day with a pass from killy?
