A new ski game

Hello! I've been working on this as a little side project over the summer. It's way better if you have a controller but you can play with the keyboard if you don't have one. Try it, there are plenty of bugs!

@Malcolm

A few things maybe you could look into improving.

1. Undo button in create mode
2. Session marker ability in create mode, I hate having to go through the whole park or to move the spawn box just to hit one feature.
3. Maybe a resize option for the boxes. You could click on a plane, IE click on the top of the box, then use a slider to extend it or retract it.

Yeah, I messaged this to you Malcolm. But I want to see what the community thinks about it too.

I thought of a cool idea, at least to me, for the level editor.
So you know how in the Skate series you can choose a location for the map? Like the downtown plaza, stadium, etc...There could be something like this in Shredsauce too. When you start a map, you could select either a mountain setting or an urban setting.

Now here's where this gets interesting. Depending on what setting you choose, the textures would also be different. In the urban setting, the 10x10 cube would be stone/brick. Rails would have an urban feel as well. In the mountain the 10x10 cube would be snow and the rails would look like park rails.

Do you feel where I'm coming from? I think this could be real sick.

thats a dope idea, but i think there are bigger priorities first before we start worrying about ascetics. But i think if you were going to make an urban map it should be a bit flatter, even the park map too maybe. Am i alone or is it just a bit too steep in general

couple suggestions:

1. Sound would be nice
2. keyboard controls are pretty sloppy. It's really hard to gauge how much you're going to spin. for instance, tap the down arrow ever-so-briefly in midair and a flip will totally over rotate. Have you tried making something along the lines of the the "charge" style from ssx? also, I'm finding it very hard to keep up momentum throughout the course. idk, maybe I just suck, but building up speed, especially for jumps, should not be this much of a chore.
3. butters/presses would be real rad.

all in all you're off to a great start! can't wait to see where this game goes.

One thing for the custom levels that would be unreal would be the ability to stretch features. That way there would only have to be a few standard features in the game, i.e. a jump, a flat bar, a dfd, and a landing, and from there you could stretch all of them out to create different features. Could be cool?

Some suggestions for more features... a big rectangle box thing that is slidable. Like the wallride wall in the original level. It would be dope because you could make tons of trannies and put it at different angles. Also a stair set and a tall ledge.

yea, you just need to fix the rotation once you load the map and then save that code and it should work fine.

I tried that, still didn't work. It seemed like fewer things needed to be changed after I cleared everything and then loaded the map opposed to overrighting the current level.

ok so in know there a lot of requests for improvements going around right now, but for me the thing i want more than anyhting is to just be able to change your session marker by pressing select when your in the custom level mode...would make building and testings parks soo much easier and faster

i know you can do that, but it can be a bit tedious to move it all the way across the map a bunch of times. Dont think it would be that hard of a fix either. Being able to press select is just much better.

Love the game! It would be awesome if you could make it possible to "stall" on sideways rails. The physics involved might be way too complicated for that, but I figured it was worth a try.

stalls would be so dope, and prob not too hard.
the way I'm thinking would be:

if(onRail && keyboard.L.isDown) {
speed = 0;
}

So basically it would check if the person is on a rail and holding down a certain key (L in this case), then it sets the speed to 0, making the rider not move, thus a stall.

Is this game written in java though? I feel like there are other code languages that would be a lot easier to do the game in so idk

I have seen allot of people play it at my school to, pretty sure most of theme don't even ski or snowboard. Would be fun to know how many people that play the game in one week or each day, I bet its allot!

But unique visitors, not just how many times its played. I know about 15 kids who don't ski that love to play and are constantly asking me about new things you can do since they don't follow this thread since they don't have Ns
