I am breaking down and looking to purchase a fixed gear. Heading into the city and do not want to dick around with mountain anymore. Just looking for a solid cruising fixed gear. I do not care to get it all colored up like Urban Outfitters junk. So I just would like to hear what companies make a good solid fixie.

Searchbar and well it is useless anymore.
inb4 hipster, get a real bike, any other common joke on fixed.

that said, you will have far more street cred if you buy an old ten speed and pull off all the deraileurs and then just swap out the rear wheel. You will also have a pile of cash left over afterwards to buy a new wheelset, paint it, get cool handlebars, whatever.

oh and go with a Redline Urbis or Specialized P-Fixie. They are freestyle oriented fixies so they are incredibly strong, and you never know when you may wanna throw down a wheelie and some bars!

And OP proper term is "bicyclist", biker is motorcycles.

Well fuck me I didn't mean the laws of the English language bind us to calling them bikers, but more commonly the term "biker" is used in reference to the stereotypical motorcyclist rather than a bicycle rider. You wouldn't call a guy on a motorcycle a cyclist would you?

Yeah, I guess. I was originally making an attempt to show that you can call people who ride motorcycles or bicycles whatever you want and that biker can be used when referring to either.

well most fixies are single speed, the word you're thinking of is freehub.

but dont fixed gear bikes when you do down hill the pedals spin really fast without you using your legs? isnt that like a little bit terrible?

it can be. but you use the pedals to manage your speed, and therefore are continually working. it's not for everyone. I only ride mine around my area which is mostly flat anyway and it's a great workout.
