So my buddy just payed 4 grand for a 99 forester, 2 weeks later blows the motor. I know there is a lot of suby guys on here and I need some info to get my research started as far as what engines will be a direct or as close as possible swap.

go on nasioc, much help there
but how much money is your buddy working with? you can get a forester engine easy, but while you have the engine out might as well upgrade, look around for wrx motors, adds a lot of HP, I would say STI engine but those cost way to much, and you can build a wrx motor easily.

Once again. You're asking for car advice on a skiing forum that's mostly populated by children under the age of 16.
Go to a car forum. Nasioc. Subaruforester. Anything.
Asking for car advice on newschoolers is like asking what skis ou should get on NASIOC.

thanks for the advice. I already stumbled across subaruforester.org and found some info. NASIOC looks like it will have plenty of info. And im not too sure as far as his budget goes, he said "my parents are paying for the engine"

99 forester? it's not worth it if it needs a new engine

not positive but I don't think so, my friend has a wrx swapped forester and all he had to do was swap the tranny.

I read of one guy that did a 06 wrx swap, bolted right up to the Forester trany. kept all the pulleys and ECU from the 06 wrx, only had to modify the intake

explain? I don't see why you would spend all that time and money on an old subaru forester. I'm assuming it has around 200k on it if the engine has gone.
I had a 99 forester. I replaced just about every part on that thing, but never would have done a full engine swap...
