I have a trip planned in a couple weeks, and I'm wondering what to expect. I'll have my beacon/shovel/probe, but I'm wondering if on a standard day at the resort if I should plan on skiing with it. Is it similar to Jackson where leaving the resort is the norm, or will I be skiing primarily in bounds? I won't have an AT setup with me, so all access would be bootpacked.
it wil be a party. bc still has the goods if you know where to look.
to above dude, if you dont know where youre going dont go out. there is some pretty "easy" bc access off of chair 5. you will see a bunch of people ducking a rope by a sign with all the backcountry rules. ducking ropes and following tracks at baker is generally not a good idea...
oh and holy fuck today was fun, probably the most fun/weirdest/most awesome day so far this season. micah stomped a double flat, i sent a "15" footer 40 feet and matt rode hontoon better than townsend.
Made it to new Denver a few minutes ago. One night here then off to valhalla for a week. They have sketch balls wifi up at the hut so i will try to keep you guys updated. Stoked!!
heading out to baker for a few days in 2 weeks. I'm from the east coast and was wondering if people recomend bringing my own skis (line anthems) or renting some when i get to baker? also any suggestions on what to rent while im out there would be very much appreciated!
this is crazy, a few years ago there would be pretty much noooo tourists cept for the rare canadian/seattle. im a little upset.
oh well guess i will keep skiing valhalla for the next few, you guys have nooooooooo idea whats up here. baker aint got shit on this. and there will never be any tourists up here. i think i found my true love
and a bonus is that the hut we are staying at is guided for a most trips cept ours since this group has been here for 12+ years but for the past three days the head guide has lead us to some uuhhhhmazing terrain that we would have never found. skied the longest, steepest, deepest run of my life today.
last day up here:( iv already become depressed. ahhhhhh well guess i can settle for baker;)
woke up this morning to 15 inches of 13 degree blower on top of 10 inches from yesterday. needless to say coldest, deepest snow i have ever skied. i doubt i will ski this type of snow again this year, but i can hope!
A friend and I are debating whether or not to skip class and come up from the seattle area tomorrow. We are having trouble figuring out what the conditions are going to be like tomorrow. I know it dumped 20 inches or so the other day. Does anyone have an idea of what tomorrow is going to be like? If its going to be nice I am very down to drive up and shred.
It will be alright. Not 20 inches new. Im headed up. I think avy danger wont be deathly high so if youve got gear bc will be good. Also if you can find stashes it will be deep but i aint showing you where to find em.
I have sufficient bc gear but I've never been to baker. My friend has but he is not Too farmiliar with the terrain there. If you have a change of heart let me know, we should be able to keep up unless you charge super hard.
Iv got an orange jacket if you se me throwing back scratchers and spread eagles maybe a mctwist youll know who it is. Unfortunately for you i wont be inbounds for more than an hour.
