Is there any alternative to the Ownuser grip for the GH2? I'm not too stoked on paying 140$ for a cheap chinese grip. I've searched everywhere and didn't find anything
I've been looking for the same thing but as of right now it seems the Ownuser is literally the only grip out there for the GH2, which in my opinion is ridiculous.
it is pretty infuriating the the ownuser grip, which is literally a plastic housing with a dc coupler, costs $100, and then another $60 for a battery (unless you want to guess at battery levels). I am considering rigging something up with a dc coupler and an external battery. They give about 4-5 hours run time, but I am having trouble seeing how I would rig it all up into one smooth and compact unit. It would be no problem for tripod shooting, but theres no way I can see it working on a glidecam
if you really wanted to you could buy the grip for 150$, take a mould of it and return it, and then just make one yourself out of some plastic, and fill it with components and battery slots.
I'd rather just build a custom case for an extended battery, and attach it with a dc coupler and use sugru to get it to line up perfectly. Cheaper, easier, better battery life, and better ergonomics than the ownuser grip. Started to mess around on sketchup and autocad working on a design, hope I can get around to building something, but it is a long ways away. 3d printer would be prime right now. Rapid prototyping, and I could make all sorts of other useful things
yeah same, and there would probably be a way to make a plastic housing for it that has a screw to fix onto the camera and a tripod mount, to make it like a legit battery grip
this is exactly what I was talking about, and to magnus I have looked around on kickstarter and other places, but right now I think its something that will stay as an idea for a while
I think I could buy a super cheap battery grip for a t2i, cut off the part that goes into the camera, and cut off the part you but the batteries in, so you basically have a hollow battery grip, then you put some sort of antislip stuff so the grip doesn't spin around. I just don't think those batteries in the video would fit in the housing
Sorry for the double post, but if that idea with the t2i grip works, I calculate that for the price of the Ownuser grip, I could have a grip and 3 batteries, all the accessories, and maybe even a charger. Pretty damn worth it if you ask me
I think the size of the t2i grip might be different than the base of the gh2, especially if the tripod mount holes aren't in the same place. My idea was to build a big one that would hold an extended battery, and then also add a section to the grip to hold the cables and make it bigger and easier to hold. I think there is a video somewhere of a guy who rigged up led's to his battery so he could check the level
Yeah I wasn't expecting it to be the same size, but making a custom one would definitely be the way to go, I just don't really wanna go through the trouble of making a plastic housing myself
Well I hadn't seen this particular one, but I was aware of the possibility of similar setups, only problem is you need to mount in on rods, which is perfect for a shoulder rig or tripod work, but sucks for glidecam
