While there is a work-around and it was never an issue for me, it is the mere principle that they have had the ability to tell you how you can use the data you have purchased, on your devices.
I'm damn happy that they got slapped on the hand for it.

The fine was 1.25 million, not 125 million. 1.25 million means nothing to verizon haha. Given, the settlement comes with Verizon stopping the blockage of tethering apps

it's their network though; of course they have the right to manage it.
yes i agree that verizon charging for tethering is lame and opportunistic at best; but i don't see how they don't have the right to control their own network.

Data usage is data usage. If I pay for 2 GB of data usage a month, that data usage should be mine to use how I see fit. It should not matter if I use that data to browse the web on my phone versus tethering and browsing the web on a laptop or tablet.
Furthermore, they don't have the right to control their network in that manner due to a contract they have which allows them access to a network, which is exactly why the FCC has fined them.

Was the no tethering stipulation in each individual contract?

^not sure why android users consider them self holyer than everyone else, ive had 2 droids and they were terriable, like would make better paper weights than phones, not trying to start a apple vs droid aggregment but damn latency's comment pissed me off, once i get the 5 ill never look back at droids, yea verizon blows too, shitty product, shitty service, shitty customer service of they werent the only company with service in my area theyd be gone

I think it all really depends on the make of android and everything. I have heard tons of people complain about android and a lot of people complain about apple as well. I think there are a ton of factors that play into it all. service provider, where you live, what kind of phone, and probably a few other things. I have a Samsung Nexus S its running jellybean right now its not rooted and yah sometimes it slows down but its all because I have so many things running at once. I think I just need to get myself a quad core phone and I'll be set. For the mos part though if I have like a few apps running rather than like 9-12 cause I have a tendency to neglect to turn off my apps after I'm done with them its fine.
I actually read an article the other day and it said that Samsung and Apple make up half the worlds population of smartphones users.
