Thinking of buying an audi.

im looking at a budget of 10k. Anyone have some advice? What can i expect from the car? They easy to work on? How expensive to maintain these puppies?

PS - get the 3.71L V9 S4. I hear it's underrated from the factory and makes 4,000 AWHP.

audi's are nice cars and all but they are very expensive to fix in most cases and are a pain in the ass to work on because they literally use all of the space in the engine compartment. invest your money in something cheaper to maintain that still is nice with awd

oh and semi hard to work on. if you dont like working on cars hard. parts arent bad its usually the labor that costs a lot. they are beasts in the snow.

1.8T and 2.0T motors CAN be seriously insane oil burners if not broken in properly. ask for leakdown test, or see if previous owner carried around a quart with em. i own a b7 s4 and its the tits. b5s are also the serious tits.

you gotta watch out with the timing chain on the 1.8t, so go for the S4, it has a 3.2L. but if all else fails get a 325xi, or a horse

Good god, stop talking man. The S4 has never had the 3.2L. The Audi 3.2L is just a normal 6 cylinder naturally aspirated engine. For 10k you could get a bomb allroad or s4. Take note tho, that to do any larger work on the 2.7 TT or the 4.2L V8 that is around in those cars, the whole engine and trans usually will have to be pulled. If you want easy(er) and cheap(er) to work on models, look for the 2.8L/3.0L V6s and the 1.8L turbo. Keep in mind, the addition of a turbo is just another point of possible failure. VW also makes 4motion passats with the 2.8L and 1.8L engines, same awd as the Audi.

lolz, keep telling yourself that. Do some research before you speak up. I should know since I put a s4 trans and outputshafts in my 4motion passat when the original tip trans went out. Straight bolt in...because its the same system. This topic has been beat to death on audizine, passatworld, and audiworld

4motion vs quattro.... quattro is a full mechanical system. 4 motion is electric control (haldex).


Its tricky pinning down which audi's have true quattro and which vw's have quattro system's labelled as 4motion.

also, keep in mind. The original quattro system had manual locking diffs. My old audi 90 had locking diffs, was the bee's knee's.

True that, back when a awd system was a real system, locking diffs included.

I should have specified, Im talking about B5/C5 Vag cars having the same electric diff awd systems.
