Well first off, this was an article written by a catholic pastor answering this question, but the interesting thing is not in the article , it is one of the comments, suggest you to read it, also yes this was on r/atheism.

I agree with this. Although believing in a greater power is too much for me, I just think that there is something bigger then us out there somewhere, I wouldnt call it god though, and I most certainly wont believe that he/it/she will change anything in my life.

Kinda random qiuote from one of my favorite parodys (Lord of the weed, kinda translated freely, since its in German): "Religious wars between grown ups are nothing else then fights over who has the bigger imaginary friend"

"This man is simply trying to offer a little comfort and clarity to those confused and hurt by this tragedy, to those who may chose to hold on to their beliefs despite them being shaken. This is not a defense of Christianity to those who don't already believe. and sadly the answer is, technically, no. our lives, whether they be 20 or 100 years long, are equal to an infinitely small amount of time relative to time itself. relative to us, it is the entirety of time, but in the grand scheme of things, none of us have any time to spend here on earth.

God is an idea, it has never been proven to exist, nor has it been proven false. This was a very un-insightful comment, however there are many americans (about 40%) who will react to this comment with blind fury.

the thing that I like about the idea of a god is, that if you belive in him/her, you dont really need to prove god exists. I dont think that comment is un-insightful as you call it. Its just another way of thinking about the matter. People who really believe in god wouldnt care about such a comment. Only the ones trying to be hardcore believers are gonna rage because of that.
Btw., as I said before I dont believe in god, but I still understand why some people do, and I dont try to convince them about the opposite nor tell them I think they are stupid. If more people would behave like this, I suppose the world would become a better place for all of us.

I am about to leave my agnostic cave and explain to you why what you are saying is contrary to the definition of "evidence".
God is a very bland, and varying term. Your train of though is that God is always good, this massacre is bad, therefore God must not exist. However, God does not necessarily have to be a good-being in our sense. Perhaps it knew something we did not. Maybe it screwed up (Ancient Hebrew, Greek and Norse mythologies had gods fucking up all the time, not to mention gods that could have used a condom or two). Or maybe God is so tremendously complex, that there is no hope of ever understanding it. There is no "evidence" to suggest otherwise, but there is not any to support it either.

I do not currently believe in god, however there is still a possibility it/they exist.

Unfortunately, many asshats have been shoe-horning their own personal battle into the spotlight this tragedy has provided.  I know everyone is entitled to say and believe whatever they want, but I do find it pretty disrecpectful to the victims and their families. 

IMO, when someone attempts to make murder victims' lives benefit their cause they're almost no better than the shooter.  Obviously that's a bit of a stretch because they wouldn't be a murderer, they'd just be the worst kind of opportunist.  I really hate that.

I really hate these statements.

It was a terrible thing, but in the end is someone saying that a tragedy like this is proof to them that there is no god any different than someone who believes in god taking solace in their belief that someone who has died is "in a better place now?"
Not for me.
