I'm new to jibbing. I ski in the PNW so there is tons of snow, which means I've only really focused on jumps when I'm in the park, occasionally I'll 50/50 a box.
I bought some presses for super cheap during the summer deals so I can detune and otherwise beat the crap out of them and finally learn to jib (also hoping to build a summer setup in my backyard).
My question is where should I mount them? I know lots of people say center mount for jibbing or 1 cm back. Is that the consensus for newbies as well? Also the K2 press is not a true twin, so will that effect where I want to mount them?
I'm a little reluctant to go full center mount, even though i've never ridden it. I did have a problem with a mis mount where the shop mounted my pipe skis a full inch forward of center. The non precise mount instructions on lib-tech's skis being partially to blame. It was awful. Riding so far forward meant when I took a jump I would have to back seat hard on the landing, I ended up getting them remounted traditionally and was much happier.
Granted that wasn't a fair experience but it's made me leery of center mount since taking large jumps on the mismounted skis owned the crap out of knees from having to backseat so much (I'm in my late 20's so I can't abuse myself as much as some of the kids on here).
Also how much should I detune, and should do it myself or get it done at a shop?
