2/10, not funny.

Why would you agree with that, the post just has ignorant blanket statements that don't even really address the post that he quote replied.
For one-- the kid said to thank soldiers for freedom of speech. abortionator responded and said that the U.S. government hinders freedom of speech more than any middle eastern dude. Or something along those lines. What? The point of the original statement was that soldiers protect our nation, and therefore our freedoms. It's a statement that has many implications over many decades/centuries, not just what is happening at the given moment. No one said that dudes in the middle east are trying to take away our freedom of speech so the response didn't really address anything the original post said.
In addition, it's ignorant to say that nothing the military is doing at the current moment is helping families at home to be with their loved ones. The military does a lot more than just fight wars, they help out on matters of national security and help with natural disasters like relief for Sandy/Katrina-- flooding, tornadoes, etc. There are a lot of humanitarian efforts and aid.
The post was basically just stating that he doesn't agree with the war overseas and therefore owes our soldiers no gratitude. It as an uninformed post that didn't say much other than spit attitude.
I was going to reply to this but you're a lost cause.
So in order to show respect or be indebted to someone, that person must have involuntarily been forced to help? Someone who chooses to serve doesn’t deserve respect or gratitude? Then I guess police officers, fire fighters, medics, etc. don’t deserve any respect or gratitude either.
Freedom
is not a given. The reason no one is coming to take that away is because we
have a military. The original post did not say that the girls freedom of speech
was given to her by the “military’s current actions”—he just said she has the
military to thank for that freedom, past and present.
Respect is earned. What have you done to earn any?
Honestly, I'd rather not get into this argument with you because I think our views on the subject are so drastically different that it will just never end.
I just don't get this. Your personal freedom was established and maintained by the government and military. Our military is what keeps other countries from attempting to take control of the U.S. You have the ability to walk out of your house and down the street without getting bombed because of the U.S. military. Every moment of your life on U.S. soil is protected by the military.
Our current military is the same military we've always had. That's the point. To say you don't support our current troops is to say you don't support troops in times past, either.
To say you don't support the nation's current agenda or mission would be a better way of putting it if that's what you mean.
you still don't get what I am saying.
I think there is a difference between supporting the governments current agenda and supporting our soldiers. You seem to think it is one in the same.
I do not think that by enlisting you are saying that you agree with the what's going on politically at any given point in time. Many soliders who fought overseas enlisted prior to the war beginning. They had no choice.
Again- I think there is a difference between respecting, honoring and supporting our military, and disagreeing with current political agendas.
