Gawd, you all are idiots, and I doubt she pays taxes.
There are tons of reasons people join the military, especially in a time of war. I know people who have joined because they felt a desire to serve, people who didn't know what else to do, people who were looking for a set of values and principles, people who wanted to kill people and not go to jail, people who wanted help paying for school, people who wanted to learn a trade.
There are also tons of people who want to kill Americans for being Americans, their rational for doing so has an infinite variety of reasons, ranging from the down fall of Hitler and Nazi Germany, to support of Israel, to stationing troops in Arabia, to perceiving it as a country of fat, ignorant, self centered rich fucks, to not condoning Sharia law, to whatever their Imam or whom ever told them. A large portion of those people happen to be Muslim, and a large portion of Muslims happen to be those people, but their are other groups out there as well (Chinese Nationalists, Brainwashed Korean's, Venezuelans, SA Drug organizations (even though our population funds them). A large part of the indoctrinated hatred is developed from religious differences (we don't stone women who have sex outside of marriage, most muslims are not overly opposed to the idea), from jealousy (we have, they don't), Our world presence (we have made plenty of mistakes around the world, and have had overt effects on many places even when we made the right moves).
As someone who wears a uniform, I am slightly offended, but largely disappointed, by the way she has chosen to act, as well as how many of you have conducted yourselves here, but in the end I am more then willing to go head to head with someone over your right to voice your opinion, regardless of whether you are an American.
All that aside, it becomes painfully obvious who has served in the military and who has not, and who claims to, but has not. The fact is most of you have almost no clue what the military actually does, or who it is made up of or just about anything having to do with it. For what it is worth, I come from the business end of the Army, combat arms, in particular the Infantry. It is our job, to close with and kill the enemy. With that said, for every minute we get to spend clearing buildings, shooting guns, and playing with expensive toys provided by the less than 50% of Americans who pay taxes, we will spend about 5 hours:
filling out paperwork,
receiving or giving classes on how to fill out paper work, safe driving, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, sexual assault, terrorism avoidance, travel, how to fill out more paperwork, how to prepare for retirement, finances, etc... etc....
filling out paperwork
correcting spelling mistakes in paperwork
figuring out how to work with AKO,
giving a class on how to work with AKO
filling out paperwork on how I fucked up with AKO
checking in with soldiers families,
checking in with young soldiers on their finances,
ensuring soldiers have time to see their kids, ensuring that they are seeing their kids,
concealing soldiers for both good and bad things,
sorting out soldiers messy divorces,
filling out more paperwork on all of the above
The list of stuff like that, that needs to be done, is endless, and for the most part it is not that much fun at all, but it needs to be done, and is sometimes very rewarding.
The less then 0.001% of the time we get to do cool stuff makes it all worthwhile too.
Well that was a dumb rant that really did not need to be said.
