ok so 90% is what you get when you shoot up people these days I guess. Private security corporations? not what anyone was talking about. Highest amount of degrees? Maybe because if you show up to the military with a degree you're automatically an officer or captain of the team or some bullshit. I'm sorry people are mean to you in the airport

the 90% statistic is off actually, its 'reduction of civilian casualty's' from 2009. Do accidents happen? Hell yes they do not denying that. But their is a great article from a university I can send to you if you'd like talking about reductions of casualties as the 'war' progresses. Also in order to promote even on the enlisted side you have to have a degree of at least an associates. Senior NCOs MUST HAVE a Bachelors degree in order to rank up to E8 or E9. Officer or captain or some bullshit? Sounds to me you don't know what your talking about good sir. Just by graduating boot and my tech school I had 25 accredited college credits that I could put towards whatever I wanted. I've been in almost 4 years and I am a semester or two away from a bachelors. Private security corporations include Halliburton, KBR, L3, and all of the other random civilian companies you see over seas so yes, we were talking about it.

Bottom line is, I'm proving my credibility and so far you're rattling off random 'facts' and looking like an asshole. Back your point up and I'll begin to take you seriously until then I am done with this dumb back and forth with you. Good day.

being that there are many employers with mandatory higher education (besides their cleaning staff), I'd say he's wrong. I mean, what do you think the average education level of employees at CDC Atlanta is? And how many people who work there don't have a college or university level education?

I don't necessarily agree with all she is saying, but I certainly believe the military is no longer fighting for "our freedom". There is not much that a country like Iraq or Afghanistan could do to jeopardize our freedom. I still support the troops because most people in the military are just trying to make ends meet but I do not agree with what we are doing over there.

Sure there are some Muslim radicals that "just want to watch the world burn" but maybe if we either showed more respect to countries less powerful than us, or just left them alone to deal with matters themselves, we would not have this target on our backs and wouldn't be hated by the majority of the planet.

Nobody likes the U.S. playing world police...

U.S. has 238 troops stationed in Egypt as an observer peacekeeping force to oversee peace between Israel and Egypt.

You should learn where are what your own troops are doing before saying anything.


Not defending that girl, she's an idiot, but it makes me laugh when Americans don't even know what their own troops are doing.

haha you have no idea.  A lot of kids in the middle east are raised since birth to absolutely hate America/Israel.  It isn't simply because the US is the "world police", its because of the differences in religion, and our past support of Israel, among other things.  It's engrained in their culture now to hate america, and there isn't anything thats going to change that. 

I think this is the video but since I am at work I can't watch it to make sure, but it illustrates  my point perfectly.

She started out strong but resorted to an elementary form of reasoning. She is fucking stupid. I can understand the issue of entitlement that plagues nationalists, but she is argues like a 6 year old. An absolute lack or reasoning and terrible understanding of ethics.

I have issues with people who outright support the troops for many reasons, but to say I do not support the troops and make this video. Fucking hell

CCAF=Associates degree. That is just the AF currently. Not including the other 4 branches. Per Capita as in people in America. Again that is just the enlisted force, not including all of the officers.

i love how in these threads all military current or retired literally just dump out facts and people are too ignorant to accept them. Makes me laugh. At least make a well put together video or paper like the woman. She took the time to do research; sure she may be wrong but she expressed her point.

If you are worried about defending your freedoms you might wanna start your search at home. Shit like the Patriot Act are far more detrimental to your freedom than anything or anyone in the middle east. I didn't know that figure about how many people have been killed but that's truly a sad statistic. We have completely ruined two countries and have no intention of fixing them. I have nothing against the idea of a military but it just isn't being implemented in a way that benefits American citizens anymore. I wont ever say I don't support the troops because this issue just isn't black and white like that but I am disappointed in the current state of it.

Also: Go military...

I'm an army lieutenant and kiowa pilot. Most of you (i'm assuming teenagers) who are making grandiose claims and gross generalizations about  the role of the military, the psyche and education level of soldiers, and the general culture in the armed forces have no idea what you're talking about. It seems like the majority of people posting here who are critical of the military are both ignorant of our foreign policy/national defense strategy and have no idea what goes on in Afghanistan on a day to day basis. I'm not going to indulge a handful of ignorant kids in an argument on my lifestyle and profession and the ethics of it all. I will say, the military does receive and overwhelming amount of support in this country which is awesome, and every service member appreciates it. Those of you who are not supportive should just keep your mouths shut because no one cares to hear it.

that's just not true. support means a lot of things, and in the last minute of the video she specifically points out being tired of tax dollars paying for the troops.

she isn't exactly eloquent with her point, but its one that deserves to be listened to nonetheless. i for one am sick of so many of my tax dollars going towards supporting an inflated military. i don't think all servicemen should die suddenly, but i don't want to support the military industrial complex either. and, no matter how non-politically correct, offensive, ungrateful, or threatening it may sound to a lot of good people in uniform, downsizing the military means (among other things) downsizing how many people in the military we have to pay for.

the girl is definitely trying to be offensive and confrontational, which is less than deserving of respect. however, not supporting enormous military spending will have to mean withdrawing support for some servicemen, thus not supporting them.

well if you look at JUST the airforce, sure. don't you NEED a higher education degree to be in the airforce? But you have to average things out with the army, where (although it may be difficult) one can get in without even completing high school let alone having a degree from a post-secondary institute.

And if you look at just the airforce, then I can say Volvo employs only those with higher education by looking only at their R&D.

bottom line is, the US military is not spectacularly educated. neither are many others.

Without people dissenting is dangerous. The American military is the most powerful force in the world. I'm not comfortable with letting that loose and never asking questions or sometimes second guessing what they do. When the people don't have a say is when bad things happen.

I absolutely agree that dissent is important and I think political activism is a defining quality of this country. If people disagree with the war or don't want their tax dollars going to defense spending they have every right to vote those leaders out of office, participate in a protest, and gain support for their political views. However, the military is subservient to our civilian leaders and officers in the military are to remain apolitical. The military is an instrument of foreign policy and more specifically defense for the US government. So if you say to me "I don't agree with what we are doing in Afghanistan, I think we should pull all soldiers out immediately" that's absolutely fine with me. You're questioning our government's employment of the military. I have no problem with people writing their congressmen and marching down the street with signs that say things to this effect. The difference is when people start criticizing soldiers for their decision to serve and armchair quarterbacking combat decisions of soldiers. Contrary to the conventional wisdom displayed by some in this thread, the army is not an employment opportunity of last resort for the overwhelming majority of the soldiers. Sure, there are pieces of shit and fuck ups in every unit but most soldiers are doing what they want to do and had strong aspirations to serve. Like i said before, in general i don't think people have to go out of their way on a weekly basis to support the military (though gratefully many do). But I think its a little absurd to criticize young men and women who put themselves in danger and sacrifice a lot if you haven't been in that situation yourself (I'm saying that to people who criticize troops, not the person i'm quoting, just so theres no confusion). I'm usually pretty easy going but i get a little fired up when people criticize what we (army/navy/af/marines) do since I had family friends killed on 9/11 and have had a handful killed in Afghanistan over the past few years. Anyway, thats my perspective.

I think the best way to support the troops is to only send them into dangerous and deadly conflicts when it's absolutely necessary and all other options have been exhausted. I'm not a troop though, so maybe they see it differently.

Yes but you are generalizing that all people in the middle east are terrorists and hate America because they were taught to do so. As said earlier there is a lot of blind patriotism in this thread including that of yours.

At others in here

The military fights to "protect" our freedom to speak out, with out consequence, like she does whether they agree with it or not.

No disrespect to the military but I still do not believe the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are justified. Whatever though that's my opinion. Props to the men and women who serve our nation!

You don't have to blindly support everything our military does to be patriotic.
