I just realized that im a major noob when it comes to ski history. this occurred when i discovered the origin of the term spin to win. been watching a lot of the old ninthward edits and what not. Any ways i guess im posting this cause i want to learn more! so anything you find interesting in the history of skiing, post it here! cheers :)

1) Find a stack of Freeze mags. Read front to back.
2) Watch Ready Fire Aim, and continue forward through the years of PBP
3) Warren Miller I do not mean the law suit with Level 1 but rather classic flick such as the Blizzard of AHHHS
4) Run away from home a marry a nice lady named Moose. She will be located in southeastern Kentucky. Tip her cousin from Vinnyville $25 and he will lead you into a crazy mountain cave. Here you will the the Oracle of Ski. You may ask him/her 1 question for every lucky rabbits foot you can bring. Good Luck

Have you ever seen an early Stump film? Obviously you've never seen Edgar Grispron rip a mogul run, or seen Doug Coombs slay a huge big mountain line in the middle of nowhere. Just cause you heard a judge wouldn't let someone do a back flip in a mogul contest, doesn't mean 2 decades of skiing sucked. I'm pretty sure you weren't there, so don't editorialize your limited history of freeskiiing. A lot of cool shit went down in the 80's and 90's and lot of us had fun going against the judges and establishment.
It made us a lot more like snowboarders a few years ago, where the patrol, the industry, and the old timers, gave freestyle skiing a hard time and didn't want us around, but we did what we liked and a lot of those guys are the ones that started what you enjoy now.

I think it's pretty safe to say that compared to the 70s and 2000's the 80s and late 90s were less than stellar, what with jumping being banned inbounds at resorts and the state of organized judging. Besides, my post had more to do with the history of newschool skiing than with what you're talking about. Sorry for posting about it on a website called newschoolers, bud.

And yes I have seen several stump movies (Maltese, Blizzard, and fistful)

Jumping banned? WTF? Mogul skiing is the history of newschool skiing, And all the guy who really got the ball rolling were all ripping it up in the 90's. No body ever likes the judging, but who gives a shit about that? But then again, i got to ski w/ Pep and bunch of other badasses everyday.. So it was pretty fucking STELLAR!

And "Focused" use to be my favorite ski movie back in the day.
Its shows shane using the first fat ski and it has the first backflip on a snowmobile.
Lots of legends in it including Jon McMurray who you all seem to hate on.
