been hearing about this and then i realized im not lazy so i dont encounter this issue. editing mts is easy but transcoding isnt that hard either.

ya, it just seemed annoying to not be able to do batches without buying 5dtorgb, and seeing as I switched from fcp7 to cs6, I like being able to just go and edit my footage. still use mpegstreamclip for the go pro/friends cams tho

clipwrap works great and doesnt effect the image at all the real avchd issue is with the gh2/panasonic

i just import all of my .mts files straight to cs6. no problems whatsoever, unless you don't want to have to rename and sort your clips within cs6 instead of just in finder.

ohh i read it wrong, i thought it meant the transcoding messed it up, i'm retarded. i don't seem to have any problems with the avchd from my hmc40 though, i guess it's just the gh2.

Well that was anticlimactic. I was expecting a real fix to the issue, not a basic adjustment that everyone already knew about. Using basic CC address the issue only treats the symptom, not the root of the problem.

the root of the problem is quicktime, and I believe it still exists in Mountain Lion. And for now I'm happy with this if I can edit the footage natively and then just add this to all my clips before I export, but I agree that it would be good to address the root of the problem

eheath recommended me clipwrap months ago, and i've been using it ever since. very reliable, relatively quick for the job it has, and free if you know where to look. my editing process goes like this:
-import all clips to clipwrip, convert to prores 422
-open clips in MPEG streamclip, adjust in/out points and unneeded videos, rename clips
-open those clips in FCP and edit
there is probably an easier way to do this but it is what i do and it works great.

I just import all to premiere, and now I will apply this to all clips

you dont need to go through mpeg (unless thats just your workflow) unless you want to use cinema tools

well when i get the videos uncompressed out of clipwrap, a short 10 second clip can be 300MB. i put it through mpeg streamclip and it's down to 10% of that. granted it goes from 1080p to 720p with the settings i use but that shouldn't warrant a change of that much, should it? i'm a noob with all the settings and such.
and what does cinema tools encompass?
damnit, OP, sorry for getting off track.

its fine, I'm happy to have everyone post and discuss their workflows, and I would say it's still very relevant

Yeah you can reduce the size, but compressing your files more will hurt your IQ. I stick with my large prores LT (MAKE SURE YOU DO LT, doing higher is a waste of space). Since HDs are so cheap now days, pick up a 2tb and go to town. I filled a 2tb in like 5 months, i think i have like 200gb left. Oh well, its worth it to keep my files at 1080p60.
