From these two trailers and your knowledge of PBP vs. Level 1, which movie do you plan on buying, or are most excited about?

WE shows like the roots of what skiing is, with the whole friends thing. Both look badass anyways.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but c'mon. Try something new? Ski flicks have time and time again gone to the same wells in search of "themes". Off top, they are:

-Nature. As in, "Man, mother nature is incredible! Avalanches and steep lines make me feel small and insignificant in the universe in a good way!"

-Skiing as Heroin. As in, "Man...my life without skiing? I can't imagine...it's what I live for!"

-Trials and Tribulations in search of GTS'ing. As in, "Man, we spent 37 hours driving around the same traffic circle looking for this rail, and then set it up, and then got kicked out of the spot by a angry non-english speaking cop after only getting 2 tries, on one of which Joey Goodtimes broke his face bone."

and then

-Friends/Bros. As in, "Man, the only thing better than (insert: seshin' this wallride to quad kink death closeout, or slashing turns in freshy powpow) is doing it with my best bros!"

Don't misunderstand me, I enjoy all of those aspects of ski movies, and each of those tropes have their place and are, and should be, hinted at and depicted where they occur naturally and organically in the process of making a movie. However, it is indisputably lazy to use any of those (or a handful of others) well-worn themes as the crux and premise of a movie today. It just is.

Take a movie like Afterdark. People seemed divided between enjoying and despising the theme and the intros that went with it. Say what you want, but it was a different take on ski porn and the idea of dreaming about skiing is something a lot of us can relate to. Whether you liked that or not, it was a sight better than WE, and I'd rather see movies go in that direction, or better yet, drop any and all pretense of a contrived theme, and just show us the most interesting images and sounds you collected in the past year.

Movies like Hot Lunch, some of the Voyeurz flicks, and webisodes like TC and Nipwitz and a handful of others get it right. Those manage to covey some kind of narrative and a distinctive feel without coming out and saying directly "OUR THEME IS FRIENDSHIP YOU CAN TELL CUZ THERE'S SLOW MO SHOTS OF SKIER DUDES HOLDIN HANDS AND SMILIN AND HIGH FIVIN AND STUFF".

After seeing the trailer for Education of Style, My top two are that and Sunny. Tis may change when Stept/4bi9 come out with their teasers though

Sunny for sure. Except I wanna see Leigh Powis in WE really bad. Always feel like he should be with Level 1, defintiely more his style of editing.

Gonna try and get all major ski movies this year. will probably get Sunny, We, and Act Natural for christmas, and will buy EOS. Already got the Stept movie

PBP's trailer was painful... They managed to shove every interview cliche down our throats in those few minutes. Skiing is something you do with friends, skiing is taxing on the body and is tough work but worth it, skiing is fun, etc. I don't see myself watching the film to be honest. The skiing looked pretty standard as well. Just a standard progression from what they've done every year.

Level 1 has promise for sure. Some really interesting filming coupled with more unique/interesting skiing. Could be good.

Looking forward to what the smaller companies come up with too, TSP in particular. I love their trailers so much.

I picked Sunny because Eric Pollard slays. I was already going to buy Act Natural before i had seen the trailer based on Come Find Us and Set Your Sights.

definitely sunny over WE, level 1 always changes ski movies up a bit with different skiing editing and music choices. I don't think i could watch another PBP segment with the same rap and same skiing

the absolute only reason this movie is somewhat enticing me to buy it whatsoever is solely to see the shot of Karl on that jump to quarter pipe

What companies are we missing so far? Stept, 4BI9, MSP, and Sherpas? I know Field Prod is doing a 2 year project this time around, so we wont be seeing a trailer.

WE.I actually really enjoyed the trailer.I mean who can say no to Dane,Jsh,and Leigh ? ill probs end up downloading sunny thought and buying eighty six,act natural and the dream factory.

but lets be fair tsp makes the best trailers,every year the music is so on point

well, it seems like all of them were edited to show the fun in skiing. but otherwise, i think the best of those is probably act natural or sunny, and then WE is the worst trailer. but i will probably get WE just because PBP is partnered with red bull so they get sick shots.

you forgot the history of the production company theme, you know, how it all started with a van and a garage, a bunch of kids just stoked to try to make something happen, then it got serious and the years just flew by. I CANT BELIEVE WE'VE COME THIS FAR!!!!?!!!!

I really liked the trailer for Sunny better than WE. it just seems they went bigger. But the whole vibe of the WE trailer was so up beat that I can't decide.

I hope PBP's movie isn't as corny as the trailer was, because the song sucked and the quotes sucked. The skiing was obviously dope, but it doesn't beat any of the other trailers I've seen thus far, even from amateur companies...

it will be epic urban, that's their focus and they are the best at it IMO, from the skiers and features to the filmers and entire project itself, they show the grit of urban skiing. and it looks like they fuckin love it.
..but there's these things called mountains that people shred too, and i'm gonna need more than the Eighty six to fill that void. not that i won't buy stept's movie if i have the funds, it just wont be the only one.
