WE or Sunny?

From these two trailers and your knowledge of PBP vs. Level 1, which movie do you plan on buying, or are most excited about?

To be honest I almost had trouble finishing the WE trailer. Instead of being interesting, I felt like the interviews were tailored for a toddler aged viewer, some of the cuts were suspect, and I've disliked that song since I first heard it.

Sunny on the other hand came with one of my favorite trailers I've ever seen.

Once premiere season rolls around though, I'm sure that I'm going to be impressed by both movies. PBP puts out good films, and I'd be willing to bet that WE is going to be amazing as long as the "we're friends" thing is not present throughout the entire movie. I'll probably buy both films.

I think you took what I said a bit too literally. Sure criticism is necessary for improvement, and often times after I watch an edit or movie I decide that I don't like it or I love it, but that is only because of the music, the skiers style, or the cinematography. All of those things are totally subjective and the Person(s) affiliated with the edit either has opinions that are contrasting or similar to mine. Even when I don't like an edit or movie I appreciate it and enjoy it because it involves skiing, something I love. I just don't think that people should complain about the subjective choices made by production company or skier makes, because unlike food at a restaurant what really matters is the shared love of skiing. And I'm not saying that people can't criticize ski movies because they aren't making them, I'm saying that it is impossible to do work that you're happy with, and satisfy everyone.

Haha I disagree with the first part of your post. The trailer was kinda sloppy, and the interviews used were a little weak, but the skiing was sick. I also really like the song, I don't care that it has shitty lyrics, It just gets me in a happy mood which coincides pretty well with the theme of the trailer. To me it looks like sort of a indirect sequal to EDIAS. I can see how you would dislike it though, as someone with flawless cinematography skills It is definitely sub par.

I agree, I'll watch them all but Level 1 TSP and 4bi9's movies are all going to be super sick I just don't really like PBP, their riders (besides a couple obviously) or their movies so we'll see

WE for sure.

glad to see a company not aiming towards cold hard ski porn. some of those quotes hit me hard, especially pep's "you only have one chance to be here, so why give it up?"

level 1's trailer did have a good song and was edited well, but the skiing was nowhere near as insane as PBP's. also their movie is about as thematically bland as ski movies come

Seriously that second bobby brown quote was so stupid and didnt fit at all with the rest of the trailer. Poor Boyz movies would be better if they took away Bobbys seg and gave Cam Reilly 2 segs

WE honestly seems like the kind of movie NS would love. Sick skiing, balanced urban and park and powder, Mackelmore song (I know a lot of people on here who like him), T-Hall, out for having fun, shenanigans, sick skiers, sick features(upside down wall, re-direct qp), and on top of that it's PBP so you know it'll be sick.

I'm very surprised by all the hate, the "dramatic interviews" are really just talking about how it's sick to be skiing having fun with your friends. Whatever I like both movies and the TSP movie and the Stept movie and probably a few others like Meatheads and TGR or MSP.

Sounds like I understood exactly what you were saying, and I still disagree. It's cool that you feel that way, but I just don't think it's realistic that most people could feel like that about ski movies.


Also, in reply to your other comment (and this isn't necessarily directed at you), it's not so much that the song has shitty lyrics, it's that the song is intended to be a joke. It puts me in a good mood too, but I think it's unusual that PBP chose a song that is clearly a joke if you actually listen to the lyrics. It's hard to watch banger ski footage when the song is saying "We're having a ho-down, you hoe's down? Don't let me pull my hose out 'Cause it's big, long, pink, strong And known to dance like all night long.' Just doesn't really work and I think that should have been taken into consideration. An instrumental for the verse may have worked better. IMO that kind of throws off their whole friend vibe and almost feels like the song is making fun of the concept of 'WE' itself.

2008: average

I was going for team attitude. It's something that level 1 has done successfully for years that PBP/MSP/TGR haven't cashed in on. I think it was more the introduction of Stept/4bi9 to the grand stage which made it possible for PBP to do.

why? when u do the same thing over and over again u dont grow or learn new things.  the entire freeskiing community, athletes and companies, are so progressive and have spread out in so many unique directions.  sometimes you have to step outside of ur comfort bubble and take a shot at a new concept/ideas.  it will be interesting to see how they spin this theme to give us a deeper look of the inner workings of poorboyz.

I will definitely be buying as many ski movies as possible.  Stoked for all of them (except for WME)!!!

Have you watched an MSP movie in the last few years? If you judge "team attitude" by guys who look like they're having fun (which is basically how I interpret it), I 'd say the MSP team attitude is pretty damn high.

sunny's trailer is better but comparing to last years movies...grand bizarre to after dark. i would say grand bizarre was better so i would have to go with WE cause poor boyz has been progressively getting better

The one thing I hope we get from WE is alot more feedback and talk from the riders in the film. It kills me when I watch a movie and there is just a massive rider disconnect. Sure I get stoked on really good shots, banger tricks, and crazy scenery, but it sucks when we have no idea what was going through the skiers mind. I love TGR's behind the line series, they really build the stoke of getting to watch the skier ride it by giving us alot of info before we actually see it, then more as the skier rides. Just got to watch Grand Bizarre the other day, and it was pretty sick, but like I said, the rider disconnect made me feel empty, looking for more. I think there should be more to movies then just segments that consist of shot after shot after shot. Maybe I'm not watching the right movies? :S

This is the sort of thing I would like to see more of though, just woven into a movie:

The WE trailer was pretty much "skiing is our life and we live to bro down and get lifestyle shots" generic gobbletygook. The Sunny trailer is a lot better, and I think Act Natural's trailer is better still.

That said, I'm excited to see both WE and Sunny, they both have an amazing roster of talent, and I can look past a lot of filming, editing, and musical short comings in order to appreciate the skiing.

 I tend to be a Level 1 guy (since about LSS, anyway) so naturally I'm excited for that, but with the additions to the PBP squad (particularly Petit and Banks) I'm more pumped for a PBP flick than I have been in years, despite the fact that I think the trailer seriously sucked.

I'm grateful that ski flicks have gotten to the point where I HAVE to buy 4-5 movies a year to feel like I'm seeing all of the top notch ski footage in a given season. We're lucky to have the options we have.

This is actually one of my first times checking out some PBP work. And I'll say, this is sick. I'm definitely getting it. Probably on iTunes though, just because it's probably cheaper.
Sunny however, I will get the pre-order, simply because the t-shirt looks sick and both together comes out to only 22$ which is pretty cheap.

Stoked for both.

The thing is you shouldn't need to choose. You should buy one less lame hoodie, and use that money to support every film company trying to bring the stoke. Resist the urge to shit on a film because it didn't have the "vibe". Because they all still have the fucking skiing.

this ain't new for PBP. they've been doing corny themes with athlete interviews over (Reasons) and over (EDIAS). Casual nailed it in his description above, and David Foster Wallace nailed it even harder in "How Tracy Austin Broke my Heart."
