yup, did it a couple of times with my gf's uncle, mainly fished for bottom dwellers such as flounder, i don't know about florida but at our coast we have sea worms in the sand, just put a spade in the sand and wiggle it around, the juicy worms will come out from the vibrations and make excellent bait...
we went daily at the afternoon/evening tide,now im no expert in fishing gear terms but we used a heavy lead sinker with tiny foldable fins(sputnik sinker?) to anchor the line way back in the surf, then we had about 3 ft of baitline and every ft we had a tiny rod 90°on the line with about a foot of line and then the hook with bait, so from the bottom up we had the sinker/anchor, 3 baited hooks about a foot apart, running up the line, then the rest of the line with a fishing float attached so the hooks don't drag in the sand .....
