First desktop build help

So I am about to order parts for my first computer build, but I really don't know anyone who is knowledgeable with computer hardware and I only have a basic understanding at best. This is where you guys come in, can anyone with computer knowledge confirm that my computer will function?

Any pointers/advice on what to buy or how to save money are welcome, however the money isn't a huge deal.
Also:
1. Is my PSU a proper wattage? Should I go higher or lower?
2. Do I need to purchase thermal paste extra? Or does intel supply it with the CPU?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Haven't been paying much attention to computer parts these days, but I don't see any major issues. Might be places you could save money with a different part, or you could get slightly better parts for only a little extra money, but that's all personal preference and you'd have to do some research on that.

And definitely buy some thermal paste - Intel will give you thermal paste but it's crap.

Watch out with the heat spreaders on the RAM, they are known to get in the way with a lot of CPU coolers. You can get the same RAM but the 'LP' version, which could be a better idea.

Z77 Deluxe? Do you really need that MoBo? You can save a fair junk downgrading that to a z77 v or z77 v pro

Don't get a 3770s, get a 3770k. Allows for OC'ing etc.

I've never been a fan of closed loop water cooling, a decent air cooler will do just as good a job.

Are you going to CrossFire on the future?

Oh, get a SSD.

Not a big fan of those types of CPU coolers either. They don't seem to work as well (in the long run, in my experience), and they tend to make your computer sound like it either a fish tank or it has diarrhea.

Ditto the comment about the ram heatsinks getting in the way of the larger CPU heatsinks. I found out the hard way.

Pretty fine otherwise.

an ~256gb SSD (Sata 6.0 gbps) will be great, and get a 1tb for music/photo/video/document storage. OCZ agility 4's are good from what i have heard.

I have one and its very quiet (or my GPU is louder and all i can hear). Does a pretty good job at keeping my CPU decently cool when running FCS, AE, Photoshop, etc...

Is 256Gb really necessary if I only plan to use it for the OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) and nothing else? Right now my laptop has a 500Gb drive that is partioned into C and D drives, and C is just under 120Gb.

A 120Gb SSD is plenty big enough for the OS, programs and games.
I have a 120GB SSD in My MacBook besides a 500GB HDD and it's plenty of space.

Hell my home built media centre has a 40GB SSD (I went too SSD really early when the prices were absolute insane, so it was all I could afford) and that has Windows 7 on it plus a lot of programs with room to spare.

Also as a word for advice, go to some nerdy forum like bit-tech, for instance.


The last time I've build a pc was five years ago so I can't help you on the specific components.
